This is IMO the best flu pandemic site:

http://www.singtomeohmuse.com/viewforum.php?f=1

Better than all of the other ones.

They don’t discuss politics; one of the mods is more or less a libertarian, the other is conservative, but they do not express their POV on the forum it’s strictly flu/pandemic oriented.

I’ve read it consistently since it started. THe main moderator is some kind of molecular biologist or something along those lines.

It mutates; some people in the 1918 pandemic caught it more than once.

Plus there may be more than one strain circulating.

Basically the CDC and the WHO are political organizations and they are being very, very far from transparent or truthful. Neither are trustworthy whatsoever.

One of my concerns/questions is are certain groups stirring up phoney hysteria to gain more power—as Rohm Emanuel says, not waste a crisis, or are they underestimating/understating the truly fightenning ramifications of what could be a very serious medical situation.

I just wish I knew what we are dealing with...I don’t trust the administration, CDC, or WHO; so if vaccines are available, who is the fool, the one who takes it or the one who does not?

This is important enough for teachers to keep a quart bottle of hand sanitizer in class, and ask students to use it on their hands and the part of the forearms that rest on the desks. And even to hand out paper towels and cleaner, so that students can sanitize their desks before or after class. “There are five bottles of Windex. Spray your desktop three times, then give the bottle to the next student. Then wipe the Windex around with your paper towel.”

Fine, but who's gonna sanitize the Windex pump between students? /infinite regression>

Cheers!

The entire pandemic/flu topic is very complicated, and I’ve been reading about it for years. It’s hard to impossible to summarize in a short paragraph. But here’s my best shot:

1. Naturally leftists and power freaks will take advantage of events that occur to consolidate power and further their agenda.

2. Pandemics are natural occurances and have happened througout history. This one just may have been helped along on purpose or by accident by Chinese bioweapons labs, that is a possibility but really doesn’t make any difference to individuals.

3. There won’t be enough vaccine for everyone who wants it. It may not work, as flu viruses mutate fast, and there may be more than one strain circulation, and it may even mix/n/match with H5N1. They are rushing the vaccine tests so the safety tests are not being done, just efficacy. There probably will need to be two shots, three weeks apart.

People will not have immunity from the vax until probably the end of the year at the earliest; that is, the small portion of the US that get the vax, IF it works at all anywa. Even seasonal flu vaxes only render about 70% immunity when they work.

4. The CDC internal and leaked figures are much worse than what are being publicly stated. THe people who run the CDC are political appointees with an agenda. THe WHO director is a Chinese government puppet. The CDC is subservient to the WHO. So the Chinese economic (and other) interests trump any concerns about the actual wellbeing and safety of US citizens.

5. Anyone who thinks this pandemic will be nothing, is overhyped or overblown, better be right. Because if they are wrong, they will be very, very sorry.

6. People who are watching this carefully think there is a good chance that this will be as high a fatality rate as the 1918 flu. Hospitals will likely be overwhelmed, so people will not be able to be treated either for serious swine flu cases, or other ailments. THere will be a high absenteeism rate, with possible ripple effects (think JIT ecohnomy - truckers sick, farm workers sick, hospital workers and cops sick, people who work in electric generating industry sick, etc).

It only makes sense to be prepared for some kind of crap hitting the fan; to think that everything will always be the way it is now, is not learning from history.

An old doctor I once knew created a profound, universal rule:

“Stool gets everywhere”.

Heck, those are almost words to live by.

That’s one reason I never eat out and use my own hand sanitizer frequently when out and about.

supposedly the next county over already had a complete school system shutdown due to h1n1, as well as my neighbors son confirmed by doctor to suffered it...cornfed country boy 15-16 yr, looked like he dropped 30 lbs in a week from the fever...as well as Mrs Gs own first grade class with 6-7 kids out yesterday, avg same school/county wide ??? and her school is 2 counties over the other direction...

we are gettin hoodwinked one way or the other on this deal by gubmint and the US pravda...

[It] happens.

Full Disclosure: I think I have mild H1N1 right now, as does my wife. Mild dry cough, sinuses full.

Have started 4400 IU Vitamin D3, oscillococcinum, Zinc Lozenges, extra C, and green tea.

If I don't post at all for two weeks ask someone to come check on me.

Cheers!

Wow. Thank you for your thotful response. Not very pretty picture. So tell me, what do you think about the comments that have been made regarding immune systems being beefed up and the danger of that as the virus seems to overstimulate immune system? Someone suggested Elderberry as a natural alternative to Tamiflu....

As you say, this is very complicated.

One other thing I forgot to ask, is there any concensus as to when this could “get ugly” and mutate. I know the 1918 Flu got bad in Fall, but is that necessarily the timeframe for this one?

As a result, the real number of cases is actually TEN TIMES that being reported by the Fed or their adoring left wing press.

if true, then the mortality rate is 1/10 what is being reported, or do I misunderstand something?
