Parents across the country are rebelling against plans by President Barack Obama to speak directly to their children through the classrooms of the nation's public schools without their presence, participation and approval.
The plans announced by Obama also have been cited as raising the specter of the Civilian National Security Force, to which he's referred several times since his election campaign began, but never fully explained.
"He's recruiting his civilian army. His 'Hitler' youth brigade," wrote one participant in a forum at Free Republic.

Besides creating a forced viewing via compliant pro-Dem union teachers, the main issue here is the accompanying teachers workshop suggestions that is very “suggestive” of creating tasks for the students to attempt to achieve in the coming months to fulfill Obama’s goals, desires, programs, etc.
I see nothing wrong with the president giving a speech to the kids, necessarily.
As long as the people who favor this speech agree to allow another one three years from now from President Cheney.

Folks, I e-mailed my daughters school and this is what they told me:
I just reviewed the two websites you gave me and then went back to Ed.gov, and now the announcement is posted regarding the speech (it was not when I responded to you earlier, even with an August 26 release date). Normally we would receive notification of such activities through the Virginia Department of Education through a process designed to ensure the validity of these announcements (we can and have been “spoofed” by individuals purporting to represent any number of government agencies). My read of the press release is that this is an optional activity that can be used by teachers as part of a broader lesson in civics education and service learning. I do not read that we are compelled to participate. As this would be a real strain on our internet connectivity, I would expect that there will not be wholesale access by our schools (we have limits in bandwidth), if any.
Hopefully, this will ease peoples minds a little bit knowing that this is an optional speech and not mandatory as originally thought.
