Is Glenn Beck a Disciple of Crackpot Ron Paul?
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Septembe 15, 2009 | David Swindle

Posted on 09/15/2009 6:20:51 PM PDT by HorowitzianConservative

Glenn Beck

In the recent dialogue between David Frum and David Horowitz about the place of Glenn Beck and other bold talkers in the Conservative Movement Frum shot out a claim which threw Horowitz off guard:

Third – how do we define “our side”? Horowitz harshly condemns Obama appointee Van Jones. Van Jones was eventually forced to resign not because of any of the allegations Glenn Beck hurled at him, but because the Gateway Pundit blog unearthed evidence that Van Jones had consorted with 9/11 denialists. So that’s the other side, right? Except… the American politician who most closely associates with 9/11 denialists is Congressman and former presidential candidate Ron Paul. And who acts as Paul’s chief TV enthusiast and publicist? Glenn Beck of course.
Horowitz was puzzled by Frum's charge that Beck embraced the embarrassing Paul:
Ron Paul is a crackpot, a conspiracy nut and a public menace. His crank views of the economy have a lot of Republicans snookered enough to ignore the fact that he is an anti-Semite and an America-hater — fundamentally at odds with America’s role in the world as the guardian of freedom. I have to confess that I am not familiar with Beck’s promotion of Paul. If David wants to engage this I would have to review Beck’s statements about Paul first.
So let's review Beck's statements on Paul a bit and see if Frum was correct in grouping Beck with the kooks of the Whack-Job Right.

As usual, the last ditch of the Big Government Conservatives is to smear small government types as mouth breathing “paranoid style” knuckle draggers.

“Paranoid style” is of course the classic, cowardly code phrase for “crazed Neo-Nazi conspiracy theorist.”

You can always count on Neocons to conflate anything to the right of FDR with Hitler’s Germany.

They think they can win the GOP back over to tax-and-spend politics as usual by threatening us with nasty labels.

It doesn’t matter; Palin will bury them in the ash heap of history.

Their efforts to make the GOP safe again for Rockefeller Romney-crat RINOs will fail, especially if Dr. Paul gets HR1207, (thorough audit of the Federal Reserve) passed.

Oops, did I mention auditing the Fed? I must be a CRACKPOT.

[Frum is not a conservative and not on our side.]

Agreed. He has the same lack of concern for out of control government spending that seems to plague a lot of moderate Republicans these days and he’s most comfortable with John McCain type politicians. You can keep him.

Ron Paul is not all wrong. It is just when he is wrong he is over the top. Ron Paul understands the Constitution.

Like everyone here... I assumed Ron was a crackpot because everyone said he was... but I like a lot of his ideas of smaller government... pulling our military out of 130 countries (I mean geez... shouldn't South Korea and Europe know by now to defend themselves after 50+ years?)... flat tax... no corporate taxes...

Now, I don't know about the ideas he has that are wrong... and I'm sure someone will tell me that sooner or later... but I wish there were more people like Ron representing us in Washington D.C.

His newsletter back in the early 90's was penned by one of his staffers who threw in some remarks that were less than flattering about our continued partnership with Israel.

Since then, Dr. Paul's detractors try and pin it all on him despite his statements, and votes, to the contrary.

I agree that Ron paul is not a crackpot. I find it pretty hard to find much not to like about him except for that little thing called Foreign Policy.

Frum has been looking for hippy absolution from Maureen Dowd for 20 years, hoping to sniff her MD 20-20 bottle cap collection.

Ron Paul is not a crackpot. He’s a solid Constitutionalist who has gone off on a few screwy tangents, but I’ll take him over 99% of Republicans any day.

Well said and spot on!

Remember that Ron Paul was the Presidential candidate for the Libertarian party, which although right on many issues is so utterly naive as to the way the world works (foreign policy) as to be almost parody.

I have many libertarian beliefs but the Lib-Party has little going for it, and R.Pauls views have not changed much when he changed L to R infront of his name.

All that being said its nice to have some one at least quote the Constitution when making an argument.

If anyone is more deserving of the crackpot label, it is Beck (at least at certain times). While he often makes sense, Beck can come across as a rather unstable maudlin, preachy character at times. Paul, on the other hand, has a calm grandfatherly style and rarely appeals to naked emotion.

are you sure you are not confusing the incident of post 25.

I know he wants us out of Iraq and that upsets Israel but that is not antisemetic.

Beck isn't a crackpot. He is preachy and weepy and does have some annoying mannerisms. He is even wrong at times. I even questioned his character when he was leaning toward supporting that liberal scumbag, Giuliani.

But that’s just Glenn Beck. He isn’t trying to be anyone or anything other than who and what he is. He’s just honest and unashamed of his feelings, and he is trying to use his position to do what is right and good.

He’s the best journalist in the country today.

Our nation is spending money borrowed at interest from our children and grandchildren.

We need to audit the Federal Reserve. They print up trillions of dollars and give it to foreign banks.

Fox News and Bloomberg are also trying to get the info, but the courts are protecting Fed secrecy. Apparently taxpayers don’t deserve to know who is getting their money. Only the high priests of the temple deserve to know, while they pick winners and losers.

When DeMint and Sanders STRONGLY agree on something, we should all pay attention and help them.

Let’s audit the Federal Reserve ASAP and stop focusing on ad hominem distractions related to Palin, Ron Paul, Glen Beck, etc.

If you want to believe Ron Paul nonsense; such as: the Israelis attacked the World Trade Center, go ahead. But don't try to deny that he is an antisemite.

Paul is not a CrackPot. He is often wrong, but always well intended. He offers his positions clearly and unambiguously. Even in disagreement, Ron Paul is a pleasant person to be around.

Beck also, is not a CrackPot. He too, is often wrong - he admits that frequently. He too is clear and direct in his positions and arguments. I don’t know Beck, but he too is probably a decent guy to be around.

It’s amazing that these people are so anxious to put someone in a “box” so that every word they utter can be discounted as frivolous.

Speaking of, I’ve yet to hear David Frum utter a word worth listening to - but I’m still hoping . . .
