PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The rise of conservative "tea party" activists around the country has created a dilemma for Republicans. They are breathing life into the party's quest to regain power. But they're also waging war on some candidates hand-picked by GOP leaders as the most likely to win.

In upstate New York, Dede Scozzafava, 49 years old, is the choice of local party leaders to defend a Republican seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, an abortion-rights candidate who could appeal to independents. Doug Hoffman, 59, is a local accountant backed by tea-party activists who has jumped into the race declaring himself the real conservative.

With the likes of Lindsey Graham whom the GOP would give money to I say no thanks to donating to the GOP. I will send money directly to the Conservative candidates.

Someone needs to tell them that we want to choose our candidates.

This sounds like a good thing!! Get those filthy RINOs out. Look at the mess we’re in because of them.

If the constituents are against them then I’d say that they are LESS likely to win... but, hey, what place does logic/cause-and-effect have here?

If the RINOs don't get out of the way voluntarily, we'll get them out of the way involuntarily.

GOP is making a huge mistake thinking that these Tea Partiers will automatically vote for the R because of Obama.

The leadership is just completely out of touch, still chasing after that phony "moderate" vote.

It doesn’t matter what “they” want. It is the people who ulimately decide.

I don’t care what party they are in, I will vote for honesty and preservation of the constitution and the bill of rights.

The RINOs let us down during the Bush terms.

"But they're also waging war on some candidates hand-picked by GOP leaders as the most likely to win."

Damn right we're waging war on some candidates hand picked by GOP leaders. Screw the GOP leaders. We will pick our own candidates and if the GOP "leaders" don't like it they will find that they aren't gonna be "leaders" much longer. They will lose Republican registrations for it. The leaders are not supposed to pick the candidates, the people are. When did this idea become so foreign???

Nice puff piece on Scozzafava. Is this your new RINO hero to worship or are you just hoping to get ACORN on board for Slick Willard’s next run?

"Hand-picked by GOP leaders"? ____________________________________________________

This has been the problem, folks, they are administrators, as far as I'm concerned, not some sort of enlightened nobiity!

The "GOP leaders" need to get back down to earth and START LISTENING TO US!

Republican party hacks might be good for the party, but not the people.

A housefull of Mr Smiths wouldn’t bother me a bit.
