Another blow to gun owners
Times Argus ^ | October 19, 2009 | Peter Magoon

A recent article on New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's sting operation to expose the "gun show loophole" read like an editorial promoting gun control. In actuality, the sting exposed nothing.

Under federal law, a private seller is under no more obligation to consider a buyer's eligibility to pass a background check when making a sale at a gun show than he is in his living room or anywhere else. Neither are beauty supply houses that sell hydrogen peroxide under an obligation to ask if the buyer is going to bleach hair or make a bomb.

A gun show is a building with a collection of tables that are for rent to just about anyone. Besides guns, people sell jewelry, decorative items, books and a bunch of other things. Some are federally licensed gun dealers and some are not. The gun show promoters are under no legal obligation to determine licensing requirements, the sellers are.

What the mayor's sting is really about is shutting down all private sales of firearms and forcing them to go through someone with a federal firearms license. This would do nothing to keep criminals from stealing and selling guns to anyone. It would simply be another tax on gun owners and another blow to the right to keep and bear arms.

Sooner or later the left will succeed in overturning the 2nd amendment. On that day, the American people will either arm themselves and take part in the second American revolution, removing thug, would-be dictators from office, or permit the permanent loss of their liberty.

Or, just remain armed, as usual, and ignore leftist idioacrazy , as usual, and continue to enjoy life as an American regardless of any retardo institution polluting “government offices”.

There are still people living in NY?

I thought it was evacuated in the Great Tax Exodus of '09...

Yeah, I don't think so. As long as conservatives have guns and can fight back, the lefties will keep running at the 2nd until the SCOTUS finally tells them to STFU, they've already heard the case and issued their ruling. The left can whine all they like about the right to bear arms, but the issue is to eliminate any/all resistance to a complete government takeover of EVERYTHING!!!

Vermont is an interesting contradiction. It’s super liberal, and the Times Argus is super liberal. But most Vermonters love guns. Maybe it’s because the hunting is so good here, I don’t know. In any case, many of the folks I know here are super liberal but love guns.

As for Bloomberg, I suppose he wants to prove his lib credentials to the NYC voters and distract them from the financial catastrophe with some of this crazy stuff around the edges, like the NY Smoking Police and the NY fat food and soft drink attacks.

Either the mayor's sting succeeded in catching sellers break the law, or it did not.
If it did, then that means that the private eyes that Bloomberg hired were ineligible to purchase firearms, and that would implicate Bloomberg in conspiracy to commit a felony.
If it did not, then THE LAW IS FINE THE WAY IT IS BECAUSE NO LAWS WERE BROKEN.

Since no one has gone to jail, that leads me to assume that Bloomberg and his henchmen did not break the law, therefor there is no story here. This is a non issue.
