Who started the Tea Party movement? On Glenn Beck (on right now - rerun I’m sure), Ron Paul was credited for the beginning of the movement. Any other information out there?

It was the first time I’d heard any connection to Ron Paul.

I always thought Glenn Beck started it (that’s what reports were saying back when it happened in April and especially when the big one happened on 9-12), but I just heard the Ron Paul connection on Glenn Beck’s show.

I’d first heard it was Glenn Beck, too.

Who started the Tea Party movement? There's no doubt that it was Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC that sparked the movement. He challenged Americans across the country to meet him for a new American Tea Party in response to the damage that Obie Won Husseini is causing to the nation.
Go to YouTube and do a search on "Rick Santelli Tea Party", and you'll find the video of the rant that started it all.

You are correct.
It wasn’t Beck or Paul.

Shortly before Santelli’s rant, there were 3 people Wiki credits as being precursors of the Tea Party movement. The first was Rush Limbaugh 3 weeks before ranting about porkulus. Then a couple weeks later, FreedomWorks activist Mary Rakovich protested outside of an Obama town hall meeting in Florida. When reporters interviewed her she ranted about “government wasting way too much money helping people receive high definition TV signals” and got some face time on TV after that. Last was a blogger named Liberty Belle organized a porkulus protest in Seattle. Within days, there were 2 more protests in other locations (Denver & Mesa) followed by Santelli’s dubbing the movement the new Tea Party. That was Feb. 19, 2009.

Rick Santelli gets the credit with his CNBC rant. Jim Vicevich spoke at the first one in Hartford with about 150 people attending in Febuary. It mushroomed in April with about 5,000 in April at the State Capitol in Hartford. On 9/11/09 over 2,000 attended in a driving rain storm at the same site. I was there on 4/15 and 9/11.

It didn’t start a movement but Roger Hedgecock led a tea party in San Diego in the 1990s.
He also fought for the right of our “Normal” group (with T-shirts) to march in the “Gay” Pride parade in those years (we lost).

Wow. This is what I call a very attractive 1- 2 punch.

I heard that too - I think not! I’ve no idea where she got that notion, but I don’t recall Paul having diddly squat to do with staring the Tea Parties!
To: JaguarXKE
Ron Paul had no involvement in the Tea Party movement!
I also agree that it started with CNBC’s Ron Sentelli’s rant - maybe not directly, but caused local uprisings. Not his intention, but what the hey, he has become the default Tea Party leader (He does not really like or want the title though).
Now...waiting for Sarah Palin to become the default leader...still waiting. Not sure why she is not getting directly involved since she is a natural leader for this type of movement. Sarah...Come on DOWN!
