“Houston businessman Farouk Shami joins Democratic race for Texas governor”
12:00 AM CST on Friday, November 20, 2009

By ROBERT T. GARRETT / The Dallas Morning News

SNIPPET: “AUSTIN – Palestinian-born Houston businessman Farouk Shami jumped into the Democratic race for governor Thursday.

Texans are “ready and open-minded” enough to vote for someone who’s serious about fixing the economy, he said, even a political long shot who has never held public office. “The people want me to run because I know how to create jobs,” said Shami, 66, who came to the U.S. in 1965 and struck it rich in the hair-product business, creating successful brands such as BioSilk and CHI hair tools.”

SNIPPET: “Though he’s a political unknown, Shami could raise the profile of the Democratic race, said University of Texas political scientist Bruce Buchanan.

He has pledged to spend $10 million of his own money before the March 2 primary. And he hired veteran Democratic political consultants.”

Thanks Barker.

“Tarek Salahi: Coolest Arab of the Moment”
By Will

SNIPPET: “One would think an organization based primarily on high-level access to power would be happy to have a board member at President Barack Obama’s first state dinner.

The American Task Force for Palestine (ATFP), however, has removed from its website Tareq (Tarek) Salahi, the most famous party crasher in the world. He, along with his wife, snuck into the state dinner Tuesday night.

This screen shot of their website shows Salahi listed as a member of the board of directors less than a week ago. Today, his image is gone.”

SNIPPET: “Anyways, after the collapse of Obama’s peace push in the region and the continues political fiasco of the PA, ATFP could use the image boost from having Salahi back on board. They must fight the stiff-reflex.

Plus, if Farouk Shami’s campaign for Texas governor gets serious, he will leave the board.”

First I’d seen his handshake close up. Not surprising.

“Is it just me, or is anyone else getting tired of hearing about this? No dispersions on a FreePer for posting yet another story, after all that’s what’s in the news these days and that’s the idea behind FR, but gosh with all that’s going on with our country why is this getting so much ink and air? Is it just the MSM’s attempt to fill time and space with something that gives them a reason to avoid Climategate or any of the dozen other debacles Dear One is holding court over now?”

Look at the photo, now assume for the sake of argument that she has not yet shaken his hand. He reaches out, she pulls a hidden sharp plastic knife (a real one, not tableware) and slashes his throat, shouting Allah Ackbar! He’s dead before he hits the floor.

It may be the most serious breach of Presidential security since the assassination attempt on President Reagan in 1981.

That’s why people are talking about it.

Apparently the guy was on the board of American Task Force for Palestine. So he was much more likely to knife the Israeli Ambassador than Baraq.
At which point Eric Holder could immediately prepare the docs for a Presidential pardon.

I see your point, but they seem to be covering so it much more from the aspect that she's a would-be reality show star wannabe, and the fact that they were accompanied by a camera crew. I would understand it if they went at the story from the security aspect, but that hasn't seemed to be the tact they taken. It's been more like a tabloid cover story.

Your point is well taken. I guess I should have expressed my curiosity more about how it's being covered than the fact it's being covered. All the stories seem to delight in showing pictures of the pair. Hardly the kind of coverage I would expect in view of the fact no one even knew what they had done until after the fact.

Thanks!

Gives the media something to spoon feed the American Idol and Dancing with the Stars public. No need to trouble the little people with stories about the global warming fraud or the looming collapse of the US dollar.
