CBS fought Charles Schulz from the very beginning. The network didn’t want Linus’ quotation of Bible verses included in the special but Schulz stood firm.

Hey, I’m no Christian. But I’ve always gotten pulled into all the sentimentality of Christmas. The Charlie Brown special is a great example of honest spiritual longing.
That’s the way all should feel about the restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem. All the sense of how beautiful Christmas is, is real — but those blessings we all sense the absence of did once flow out of the Temple, and all souls long for that connection again.
I guess the airing this yr was postponed for a week due to Obama speech; “The President Is Pre-Empting Your Special, Charlie Brown”....
A few yrs ago there was a jazz tribute album with the music of Charlie Brown; IIRC David Benoit did Linus and Lucy while B.B. King took on Joe Cool.
