Here is a story on how CBS tried to cancel the Charlie Brown Christmas Story.
Some stories just need reporting so we dont forget some of the heroes of our past. I have paid attention to anything Charles Schultz since I played hockey with his grandson years ago. I was listening to KTKZ am radio on the way to work the other day when Mike Gallagher, the morning host, told this amazing story about CBS, Charlie Brown's Christmas and Mr. Schultz.
So I did a little fact checking to confirm it and here is what I discovered. Here are some notes from Holly Hartman who researched this...at the link...

CBS fought Charles Schulz from the very beginning. The network didn’t want Linus’ quotation of Bible verses included in the special but Schulz stood firm.
Nothing has changed in 40 years...
Hey, I’m no Christian. But I’ve always gotten pulled into all the sentimentality of Christmas. The Charlie Brown special is a great example of honest spiritual longing.
That’s the way all should feel about the restoration of the Temple in Jerusalem. All the sense of how beautiful Christmas is, is real — but those blessings we all sense the absence of did once flow out of the Temple, and all souls long for that connection again.
I guess the airing this yr was postponed for a week due to Obama speech; “The President Is Pre-Empting Your Special, Charlie Brown”....
A few yrs ago there was a jazz tribute album with the music of Charlie Brown; IIRC David Benoit did Linus and Lucy while B.B. King took on Joe Cool.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Curse you, Red Barack!
I love reading Peanuts even today. There’s something about the simplicity of the characters that really grabs me.
That scene always chokes me up.
So does the end scene when they cheer for Charlie.
"Lights, please?"
Amen amen.
Amen.
Still one of the most pure and innocent things on TV. Linus would have made one of the best kids a parent could ever ask for.
Yes; simple, genuine, innocent characters (except Lucy) would always grab an audience.
True spoken words!
I am convinced that they whacked Joan of Arcadia several years ago for identical reasons
