A crowd estimated at up to 1,200 people has been waiting in the cold for former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to begin signing books at the Fred Meyer store in Coeur dAlene.
The first 700 people in line are being given wristbands that will guarantee a chance to have Palin sign up to two copies of her book, Going Rogue.
Fred Meyer officials have begun to pass out the wristbands in preparation for the noon event.
The first person in line, Mary Ann Porter, of Spokane, said she arrived at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Overnight temperatures plunged as low as 9 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
A party atmosphere prevailed since the crowd began forming yesterday, with an enterprising coffee retailer making the rounds on an ATV to take orders for hot drinks.
Palin is on a nationwide book tour, and has attracted large crowds at many of her stops.

Sounds to me like Palin....is....ah....well, let’s just say.....STIMULATING THE ECONOMY, and she didn’t even get any stimuli.
She’s stimulating the economy. Way to go Sarah!
This is how to properly stimulate the economy: produce something people actually want to buy, and everyone benefits.
Please, Freepers, take a video camera, shoot footage of the people who show up for these events and post it on You Tube. It’s just about the only way to document what is really happening here.
I heard a few of the attendees being interviewed on this morning’s radio news. Several had come from out of state, and most of them had started waiting in line yesterday afternoon and spent the night in line or waiting in their cars. Go Sarah!
ah shoot. didn’t think of shooting video.. can say I stood in line for hours just to shake her hand. worth it :)
When Sarah came to Indy - Noblesville Borders, a cafe down the way eventually got the idea to send someone around selling hot chocolate. The funny thing is; Borders has it’s own in-house cafe. One would think that they would have wanted a piece of the action.
Apparently they didn’t. Thankfully the little indpemdent guy did.
At the Fort Wayne stop, Meier had the employees giving out bottles of water and cookies. It was a class act!
its been bitter cold here....with a stiff wind......anyone who waited in line had to have a huge fire in their belly....
