Libertarian-leaning Medina is long shot for GOP nomination but could prompt runoff.
In case of danger, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Debra Medina legally totes a 9 mm pistol (with a 16-round magazine) in a zippered case in her car.
But she doesn't want a license to carry it elsewhere.
The Wharton businesswoman favors repealing the Texas concealed handgun law, saying it shouldn't be government's job to license and regulate guns.
This protégé of libertarian-leaning U.S. Rep. Ron Paul is no sheep.
She told me that decriminalizing marijuana deserves a look. The mother of two home-schooled children, now grown, also sounded skeptical of the state mandate that children attend school.
Medina said she voted for Republican George W. Bush for president but not for the GOP's 2008 presidential choice, U.S. Sen. John McCain (or Democrat Barack Obama).
"That's one of the biggest mistakes Republicans make: Close your eyes, hold your nose and vote for the guy with the 'R' beside his name regardless of what he stands for and what he does," she said.
Making her first race for public office, Medina is chasing well-known, well-funded foes Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Barring upheaval, she won't catch them.
Still, she could keep one from drawing more than half the March 2 primary vote. She'd then get credit for causing their April runoff preceded by loads of high-dollar advertising.

Basil, we’ve known each other for years, but you’re wrong on this.
Medina is clueless. She couldn’t even tell the difference between legal Party business and illegal, so she sued the RPT.
She’s like all the Paulers showing up to “take over” the RPT one precinct chair at a time - proving they have no clue what a precinct chair does. (Not surprising, since most of them have never even worked the polls on election day.)
Or all the Paulers who can’t bother to read the RPT platform and who are so insulted when their resolutions aren’t passed independently, but are, instead, affirmed along with the standing platform.
On the other hand, it is not up to you to decide whether I am right or wrong on "this".
because patriotism is bad, whilst communism is good
Medina is actually NOT a Latina, not that it matters.
The only true quote in your post is that last, the rest are reports without quotes.
PERRY: Same as its always been, Ive never been in favor of a border wall, theres strategic fencing in some of the urban areas that can be helpful. But you secure the border with boots on the ground, technology and some strategic fencing, but its a compilation of all of those that will secure the border. We know how to secure the border its just a matter of the federal government recognizing that the state might have an answer. (Rick Perry, Remarks To Reporters, Laredo, TX, 10/2/09)

Basil the truth does matter just maybe not to some.
What makes you think that SHE is a Latina?
I used the wrong words, sorry.
Medina has her facts wrong on her major points against the Governor and the RPT.
I agree with her on some things - no license should be necessary for carrying a gun, nothing that can be grown in the yard and doesn’t even have to be processed should be regulated by the State or Feds, except where it’s sold.
I’ll back these if anyone wants to bring them up for the platform committee.
However, she does need to be a Republican if she’s going to run in our Primary. She can’t go around saying she’s Libertarian one day and Republican the next and expect any help from the Party. She logically can’t expect her record of lawsuits and tearing down to instill confidence in her ability to work with the rest of us in Austin.
What makes you think that SHE is a Latina?
I didn’t say she was a Latina. I have no idea what she is. Obviously there is a disagreement between what one poster said and what you said. At this stage I’d trust your assessment not the other.
I’ve asked on this forum several times if anyone knew is she was any kin/relationship to David Medina the Texas Supreme Court Justice that was Perry’s appointee and legal advisors for a few years. So far no one has offered an answer.
I don’t know if she is any kin to David Medina, but I will find out and get back to you ASAP.
Here's her website in case anyone is interested in learning more about her.
She didn’t vote for McCain/Palin. She gave us Obama/Biden.
Really, I was under the impression that Texas voted for McCain, and that the Texas Delegates to the Electoral College cast their ballots for the Senator from Arizona rather than the Senator from Illinois. Thank you for the correction.
I doubt at this time that I would vote for Ms. Medina in the Primary, but I will strongly consider leaving the governor blank in the General if KBH is the Republican nominee.
She is not a Latina. She is a married a Hispanic. She is a white nurse that started a business assisting folks with their medical bill appeals. Now her company also works for providers as a collection agency against patients. Makes money on both sides of the equation. The American Way.
If you ever want to know what she thinks or how she will act on an issue. Just substitute Ron Paul, and you can predict her position.
PS- Yes, I know her. Used to coach her son in soccer 10 years ago when she still worked at our hospital.
I’m worried that the Libertarian candidate running on the Republican ballot will give us a Hutchison-White Governor’s race in November.
Gardner Selby must have been tickled more pink to get to publish this article.

‘Medina is actually NOT a Latina, not that it matters.’
Maybe not, but she is married to one. (Noe Medina)
Who knows where her loyalties really lie?
(Seems we elected a man with a Muslim name and nobody thought it would matter)
Nope. Not taking the chance.
