WASHINGTON: A "bunker buster" bomb with more than 10 times the explosive power of its predecessor is to be put into service by the United States next December, six months later than previously scheduled, the Defense Department said. The deployment's timing may help shape new calculations in long standoffs with Iran and North Korea over their nuclear programs, much of which are believed to be underground to avoid detection and enhance their chances of surviving an attack.

And again, while it sounds good to say that we should give Israel the bombs, Israel have no practicable way to deliver a bunker buster of that size.
Bomb will be too large for Israeli fighter-bombers to carry. This type will probably be used in B-52’s and B-2’s unless it is modified.
Nice of Obama’s PC cowards to delay its production. Gives the enemy enough time to move items out of vital installations/targets to deeper mountain facilities.

The bombs are modified Army artillery tubes, weigh 4,637 pounds, and contain 630 pounds of high explosives. They are fitted with GBU-27 LGB kits, 14.5 inches in diameter and almost 19 feet long. The operator illuminates a target with a laser designator and then the munition guides to a spot of laser energy reflected from the target.

We were discussing the new bomb, the 30,000 # variety.
Iran might think they have time to scuttle their nuke areas and that movement might be what we need to locate the sites we're uncertain of at this time. Maybe? Snuff them out?
Allow Iran's acquisition of the bomb, so that WWIII can flare up in the Middle East.

Tomas (and/or others) - I would be interested in hearing how Israel might effect such a raid on Iran. I have always thought it apparent that Israel would need assistance from at least us, if not several others.
What are the issues, whether bunker busters or more conventional bombs are used?
- overflight of several countries
- how to protect bombers, there and back
- refueling needed? who, how, and where?
- alt landing site need? Afghan strip controlled by US?
- how would plans change if 747s rather than f-15s were used?
- how to get back to Israel
- all this considering that multiple facilities would have to be targeted.
