That's not "spanking".

I went to military school, they used a fraternity paddle that would lift you off the ground. If you whimpered or shed one tear the other cadets would kick your butt later. We never thought about complaining, we had fair advance warning what the rules were. Sometimes it was just worth a few licks, LOL! I know I didn’t live in fear of it.

Chest, back, and arms? That is abuse.
Spanking means discipline applied to the backside, a nicely padded region that stings, but doesn’t bruise and doesn’t do actual physical damage.

Bruising a kid with a hand or object is child abuse, plain and simple.
Using a spanking is ok as a form of disipline, but not leaving bruises.
The woman is an idiot.

In the inner city, it’s not uncommon for a spanking to be a bathtub full of scalding water.

I’m so glad I was raised in the 60’s and 70’s. My mom would’ve had a few life sentences if she had to raise me today.
I am on record as saying “She was RIGHT”. :-)

Stupid Reporter doesn’t know the difference between a spanking and abuse.

This, I don't understand. My own children, now all grown, were never beaten or struck physically. I ensured it. And they all turned out to be fine adults: disciplined, accomplished, hard-working, and well-respected in their communities. And they never caused me one minute's grief while they were growing up. That doesn't mean I let them be brats when they were young. Far from it. They considered me to be stern but supportive and affectionate, and they always tried very hard not to disappoint me or their mother.
I can't speak for others, but in my own experience this kind of corporal "punishment" is excessive and completely unnecessary.

When properly given in the proper location a belt may leave a red place a spell maybe a day or so and it should be on the padded seater the Good LORD made such for that reason. Discipline is not bad. Spanking is not bad when needed. The regions where these kids were reported to be hit and bruised it is never justified period. Not with belt, hand, anything.
I got the belt or switch as a kid. A little bit of red in the back of the leg from the switch was a harmless reminder that my behavior had consequences.
I am a stepfather to now two grown women. When I married their mom they were early teens and my wife was not physically able to whip due to quadriplegia. Had they been boys? No problem for me to whip if it warranted. I used some just as effective means of punishment which got the message through.
I'll say this also the corporal punishment I got a few times at school was always far more painful than any belt or switching I had received at home. Those blame B.O.E. paddles hurt LOL.
