Taliban to execute US soldier if Aafia not released
Pak Tribune ^ | 2/5/2010 | PakTribune

PESHAWAR: The Afghan Taliban on Thursday demanded the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist who has been convicted by the US court on charges of her alleged attempt to murder US soldiers in Afghanistan, and threatened to execute an American soldier they were holding currently. They claimed Aafia Siddiqui’s family had approached the Taliban network through a Jirga of notables, seeking their assistance to put pressure on the US to provide her justice.

“Being Muslims, it becomes our religious and moral obligation to help the distressed Pakistani woman convicted by the US court on false charges,” said a senior Afghan Taliban commander. The commander, whose militant network is holding the US soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, called our sources from an undisclosed location in Afghanistan and threatened to execute the American trooper if their demand was not met.

Pentagon Dedicated to Bergdahl’s Return, Spokesman Says
By Karen Parrish American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4, 2012 – The safe return of the only U.S. service member known to be in Taliban captivity remains a top Defense Department priority, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said today.
Army Sgt. Bowe R. Bergdahl is someone Pentagon leaders “remember every day,” Little told reporters at a news conference.

“We are taking steps on a regular basis to try to determine precisely where he is, and to secure his freedom,” he added.

Reconciliation between the Taliban and the Afghan government remains an Afghan-led process, Little said in response to a reporter’s question, and is not linked to the department’s efforts to secure Bergdahl’s release.

“We are strongly dedicated to getting Bowe Bergdahl home to his family in Idaho,” he said. “We want to see that happen as quickly as possible. … We never forget those who remain in the custody of those who should not be holding our soldiers.”

Bergdahl, 26, from Hailey, Idaho, has been missing since June 30, 2009, when his unit in Afghanistan noted his absence from roll call. He is assigned to 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based at Fort Richardson, Alaska.

“Drone Strike Kills Senior Afghan Terrorist Linked to Kidnapping of US Soldier

Three al Qaeda terrorists also killed in N. Pakistan missile attack”

BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff
September 6, 2013 4:22 pm

SNIPPET: “A drone strike in northern Pakistan has killed a senior leader of the Islamist terror group known as the Haqqani Network, according to reports from the region.

Mullah Sangeen Zadran was killed by a U.S. missile strike fired from a remotely piloted drone aircraft in an operation in North Waziristan Thursday night, local sources and Pakistani intelligence officials told the Express newspaper in Karachi.

The drone strike involved several air-launched missiles that killed a total of six people and injured four others at an al Qaeda camp at Nawab, about 150 miles northeast of Karachi.

Others killed included Jordanian al Qaeda members Muhammad Abu Bilal Al-Khurrasani and Abu Dogana Al-Khairrasani, and Egyptian al Qaeda terrorists identified in reports only as Zubair.”

SNIPPET: “Zadran also reportedly was involved in the kidnapping of U.S. solider Sgt. Bowe Robert Bergdahl who has been held by the Haqqani network since June 2009.”
