Yes the not-so-bright, would-be terrorist from Nigeria got though international and domestic security mechanisms supposed to have stopped him long before the jerk lit his underwear afire before landing in Detroit. And yes the incident happened during the administration of President Barack Obama. But the sniping at the president by Republicans, including former Vice President Cheney, and by conservative radio and TV commentators, borders on if not passing into asinine.
The criticism has included such childishness as blasting Obama for waiting a few days before making a national speech on the incident. For heavens sake, the president was briefed on the incident from the moment it occured; he made statements almost immediately indicating his concern and that he was being regularly briefed; he took time to gather the facts and meet with his national security team; and then he appeared publicly to give a rational, measured, but hard-hitting response. And for this, a former vice president criticizes him.
Partisanship truly has pervasively infected our political system when a reasonable, measured, factual, timely and substantive response by a president to a single security incident the roots of which clearly indicate long-simmering problems that predated his tenure in office is publicly blasted as irresponsible. In point of fact, those levelling such counterproductive attacks are the ones engaging in irresponsible behavior.
Atlanta Journal Constipation BS from barfing Bob Barr!
Sounds like D-Day when they wouldn't wake der Führer.
hmmm. No Bob Barr book ad on the FR home page anymore.
I’m sure the ACLU has his books prominently displayed on their site.
Thanks, Jim! :-}
more room for a glenn beck or mark steyn book. :-
Is he still on the ACLU payroll?
I’ve never seen Barr and Ron Paul in the same room together. Hmmmmmm.
Where is Bob Barr and what have you done with him?
Honestly, I feel like he’s been replaced by a “POD’ person.
That would explain part of his desperation.
When will Barr (and others) start to demand that Obama take responsibility for anything, anything at all ?
Back in 2004 over the Christmas holiday, I was having dinner with a lib friend who complained (per her faithful reading of the WaPO) that W had sent only (something like) $75M for the tsunami victims. This was on Day One. I pointed out that it was an initial amount, no idea was yet clear of what the damages would be, AND, furthermore, the first thing W did was to send a US Navy ship with water purification capabilities, which was a helluva lot more important to survivors than any cash at that time. She shut up.
I heard it was 3hrs. I'd love to see some confirmation on this.
You may be right. Judging by the teaser that ran on WABC, "Americans will be shocked at what information was missed" or some such Hollywood-quality line as that.
So, yeah, this about making obama look presidential.
They have to make sure the teleprompter is all tuned up, too.
Well, he mentioned Nappie giving details about something later in a briefing, so I guess Mr. Janet is not under the bus yet.
He said, "when the system fails..."
He's gonna order "internal accountability reviews." whoop-freaking-ee.
He talked alot about the no-fly list. Here's some no-fly for ya:
Perhaps if Obama's anti-terrorist pointman wasn't too busy to cancel his Christmas ski trip to do his job, Obama might (but probably not) had been quicker to react. After all, we would not want Obama giving up his Hawaiian golf game.
That's because they don't want to present the lightning bolt with a single target.
