The run-up to the special election in Massachusetts to replace Ted Kennedy has brought a surprising possibility to the forefront: Massachusetts might not be as reliably liberal as the conventional wisdom holds.
In all but two of the last ten presidential elections, Massachusetts has awarded its electoral votes to a Democrat. The two elections that it went Republican: 1980 and 1984 Ronald Reagan...
After all, this is the state that not too long ago elected a Republican governor twice. Granted, Mitt Romney has swung hard to the right since leaving Massachusetts, but the principle still stands: the people of the Bay State are not as allergic to voting for Republicans as one might think, for one major reason independents.

Then why did the swimmer win every election with a huge majority?
In your dreams, Michele.
Massholes are notoriously condescending toward blacks, and pretty segregationist in their thinking.
More so than most other states.
Twisted groupthink...
In Tuesday’s editorial, the Boston Herald said that Brown’s service as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps gave him “a unique perspective on critical military issues and issues related to the war on terror.”
During Monday’s debate, Brown said that he was “scared” by Coakley’s views about how to deal with the terrorist threat.
“To think that we’d give people who want to kill us constitutional rights and lawyer them up at our expense, instead of treating them as enemy combatants to get as much information as we can under legal means, it just makes no sense to me,” Brown said.
NOW we're seeing what a true liberal he was and Obama is...
Better late than never.
Someone made a good point today on a Boston radio show....he said Kennedy was in there for 45 years, Kerry has been in there at least 30 years, can we really stand 25 years of Coakley?
He could always bring the Federal funding to the commonwealth...
Good news. If Brown, et el, pulls it off Obummer will spend the rest of his ‘term’ blockaded in the WH.
“Massholes are notoriously condescending toward blacks, and pretty segregationist in their thinking.”
...back when busing was tried to force school integration, South Boston had riots...they were content to be among their own kind.
I see him back in Hawaii surfing, golfing, and having a good time on our dime.
Obummer failed in Virginia, New Jersey, and Copenhagen. His polling numbers are in the tank. It will be a cold day before he shows up on the campaign trail supporting other candidates. He was probably told to stay home. The only reason he’ll go to Boston is for “date nite”.
Someone as “senior” in the Senate as the swimmer gives the state a lot of influence.
Having lived in New Hampshire since 1961, I have had a long time to observe Mass. and its citizens who move north. Even the ones who move north to escape tend to vote majority Democrat. They talk like conservatives and then vote for Che Porter, Hodes and our current Democrat Governor, Senate and House.
Brown is a real long shot. I’ll be surprised if Coakley loses.
Remember how bad rioting got when Baston schools were integrated by court order?
Lots worse than anything I saw in the south.
I know I can’t! Something about Coakley just screams “Nancy Pelosi-lite”
I bet ACORN is gearing up to steal another close election just like they did in Minnesota to send clown Al Franken to the Senate. If the race is close watch for hundreds of ballots to be suddenly “found” all for Coakley.
