Middletown, Connecticut rocked by explosion

An explosion in Middletown, Connecticut has rocked the town. Initial reports are that about a dozen people have been injured.

Middletown, United States - The Middletown Fire Department just said in a phone interview that they are in the process of putting out a second alarm. There are an unknown number of casualities. The explosion took place at NRG Power Plant on River Road. According to their web site they are the fossil-fueled electric generating plant in the state. Reports are saying that the blast could be felt as far away as Durham.

Homes in the area sustained damage from the explosion. Possible 3rd fatality.

Our son is in Newington and he phoned to say he heard and felt the explosion in his home.

The plant burns natural gas along with low-sulfur DF2, the same fuel oil in trucks; doesn’t seem to be a lump of coal onsite.

Oops...I didn't mean the state abbreviation.

Eye witness says they had "jet engine noises" in the morning. So it sounds like they were doing CT testing.

Heard it at my house in North Haven, almost 25 miles from Middletown

Actually thought it might be an earthquake
