Jeri Thompson: Fox's Wallace owes Palin an apology
Politico ^ | 2/5/10 | Ben Smith

Posted on 02/07/2010 1:21:15 PM PST by pissant

Jeri Thompson blasted Fox News host Chris Wallace on the Fred Thompson show today, calling his joke that he hoped Sarah Palin would sit on his lap during an interview with him "inappropriate" and "insipid," and demanding "action from Fox.

Thompson, the wife of the former senator and presidential candidate, told POLITICO's Jonathan Martin that the remark, to Fox Business's Don Imus, amounted to misogyny, and that she was tired of seeing it from "these dirty old men" on Fox, a network that she said ought to be respectful of conservative women.

"Sarah Palin is now part of the Fox family," Thompson said on the show. "She deserves you all watching her back -- and I do not mean it literally."

Wallace, she said, "owes her an apology."

"Not only is she a national figure – she deserves the respect that any other man would get in that situation," Thompson said, saying that her inbox was full of complaints from conservative women over the segment, and that the Palin group Team Sarah, as well as the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, were dismayed by the segment.

"I hope that Fox does something about this, and they actually take this on, because it is not funny," Thompson said.

GOP women like being attractive and don’t mind people noticing.

Agreed! Like my uncle always said, "You can't tell a book by its cover, but if I don't like the cover, I won't read the book!"

Hypersensitivity is how the left won. It works. Hand it back to them tenfold. Hold them to their own standards.

It only worked when the left did it because we have standards and we can be shamed into following them. The left doesn't have such moral restraints and thus cannot be shamed into doing the right thing.

It WAS rude and disrespectful of him. He was talking a real woman not someone sporting a tramp stamp for all to see.

And again, it was a joke. Are we really well served by grousing over every little potential slight at anyone? Let it go and move on with life.

Shamed? No.

Forced to apologize or resign due to vocal opposition and donor defections? Yes.

Yeah, let’s treat all women like whores - We’ll use Bill Clinton’s standards as our own.

What kind of BS is this? Is Chris Wallace hiding any blue dresses that we do not know about?

He made a JOKE.

Well if l’il Jeri would get her FACTS straight, maybe she’d save herself further embarrassment.

Wallace said NOTHING of the sort. He was on Imus’ program and they were discussing Wallace’s upcoming interview of Palin. Imus....being Imus....asked him if Palin would be sitting on his lap during the interview. Wallace, visibly uncomfortable, stammered out something like “one could only hope”.

NOT the same thing as he’s being ‘charged’ with. Enough of this B.S., folks.

If we’re really serious about wanting her to become the leader of the free world, we can’t tolerate jokes like this when it come time for her to deal with public figures like Putin or Chavez or whomever.

We could say the same thing about 0bama. In fact, we KNOW that his being so thin-skinned and unable to take a joke is part of what makes him incapable of dealing with people like Putin or Chavez. If you ARE going to be the leader of the free world, then you have to be able to take a few verbal potshots without whining and complaining about it.

Don't forget that it was also Chris Wallace who said that the 0bama administration is the biggest bunch of crybabies that he's ever dealt with. Is that really worth emulating?

The thing is this, Gov. Palin herself has not weighed in on this matter, and for all we know, she may not even care enough about it to do so. If she doesn't care about a stupid joke, then why should we?

I think it was a stupid thing for Wallace to say, but I think the best thing to do is let it go. More coverage of it will only harm Palin because the incident suggests that even the station where she’s a pundit now doesn’t take her seriously. She doesn’t need more of that kind of publicity.

Let it go.

Yep. That’s it. He told the story on “Fox & Friends” yesterday morning. It’s a non-starter.

Wallace should be reprimanded for a such a clear breach of civility and respect of a lady. Especially a lady whom could very well end up being our first female President.

I have read a few of the posts on this thread and have to admit I am shocked at how many so called conservatives think that it is funny or otherwise okay for the degradation of a lady. They are confused on the issue and might be better off re-learning the lessons of civility their mothers taught them...or perhaps these are motherless souls who so gleefully disparage women...

“The quote that Wallace should apologize for is asking Palin to say “You Betcha” at the end of the interview.”

I don’t think it was elitist but it definitely reduces her to a cheap trick. She didn’t do herself any favors when she said it on that SNL skit and not much else.

The real outrage Mrs. Thompson should have is that Imus still has a job, he is the moron. We are so over him.

If Fox had any brains they would buy the rights to Laura Ingraham's show, and Dr. Bennett's and move her into Imus's time slot and simulcast her on the radio and TV.

Absolutely inappropriate. Grown men should never make these kinds of jokes. She’s a human being deserving of respect. She’s now a colleague of journalists. She’s a wife and mother. There is no excuse for Imus’ question. Wallace shouls have not answered at all.

It’s not really a joke. It’s the old double standard: she’s a woman, she’s in public, therefore she is vulnerable to sexual innuendo or aggression.
This is shameful, unChristian, and unAmerican.

Truthfully, the libs seems to attract the ugliest people.

They’re ugly inside and outside. Everyone in the current administration is miserable looking, angry all the time, and filled with inner hatred for the rest of us.
