Blizzard of Lies: Debunking The Warm-Air-Holds-More-Moisture Defense
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 02/12/2010 4:33:36 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

By now, we're all familiar with the global warmists attempt to explain away the record-breaking mid-Atlantic blizzards. Take this, for example, from the New York Times [emphasis added]:

[snip]

So more snow fell from Philly to DC because the temperatures were warmer than normal during the blizzards? That got me wondering: just what were the temperatures in DC on the snow days, and how do they compare to the norm? And guess what?

What gets me is, why the ordinary working liberal wants the GW hoax to be true. If the hoaxters can pull this sham off to it's ultimate conclusion, it will cost the average Joe thousands of dollars, not to mention who knows what kind of added rules governing his lifestyle. What kind of an idiot is frothing at the mouth, fighting tooth and nail to strap this yoke on himself. If these people are proven to be wrong without a shadow of a doubt, they are going to be livid. And I just don't get it.

Oh you cruel and insensitive conservative bastards!

How dare you take away these people’s sole means of “mattering” in this world!
How dare you rip out their reason to feel good about themselves for being so “caring” and “enlightened”!

Warmer air holds more moisture, of course.

But saturated air at 32 degrees F holds the same amount of moisture at a given pressure, every time.

If it were warm it would rain. When it is cold, it snows.

Let's get Old School, Baby!... Psychrometric Charts!

Global warming must be stopped.

If Global Warming continues to grind on in it’s inexorable path, they’ll have to schedule snowplows to clear the streets before the Fourth of July parades.

Warm air does hold more moisture. As a result, it does not precipitate as much.

According to Mastercard, the way to "help Dad be a better man" is to make sure he follows all the greenie rules...

Don't you want Dad to be a better man?

For how many years has it been "settled science" that Global Warming will cause more droughts?

Here's the Google search results for: drought "global warming"

It returns 2,180,000 results and here's a sampling of the titles just from the 1st page:

"Global warming to cause massive drought over next 100 years, say climatologists"

"Drought's Growing Reach: NCAR Study Points to Global Warming as ..."

"Global warming future: Drought, wildfire, floods, pestilence ..."

"Global warming future: Drought, wildfire, floods, pestilence ..."

"Global warming 37 percent to blame for droughts"

So, Global Warming Theory is proven when the air has less moisture
AND is also proven when the air has more moisture.

Global Warming is the only "proven" scientific theory established by a NO FAIL test.

***Like I said before, it still has to be cold enough to snow.***

Yep.

AND it needs to be cold enough HIGH enough to form SNOW rather than ICE.

(GW loons have been saying its the UPPER atmosphere that is heating from too much CO2).

I’m looking out my window in Fort Worth at a FOOT of SNOW. We always get ICE because that can form lower in the atmosphere. Nice change.

"In unrelated news... From now on, tanking poll numbers will be known as Approval Poll Change.."

Close. Obama just recast the approval polls as reflecting "amorphous moodiness".

They are Amorphous Moodiness Polls now.

The argument by the left is stupid.

However, the general point isn’t contradicted by snow. The point is that if your air is warmer, it can hold more moisture. If that warm air then hits a cold air mass, as the air cools, it will release it’s moisture. If the cold air mass is cold enough, that moisture will freeze before hitting the earth, and we will have a storm.

So it is true that the warmer the upper air is, the more snow we can get. A really strong storm has warmer air, more circulation, and can suck more moisture off the oceans.

Usually, if the storm is that strong, it brings so much warm air in that the temperature goes up too much, and we get rain. We are often on the snow/rain line.

This year it has been so cold that the warm air wasn’t enough, and we got snow. and more snow. I would note that the snow/rain line for Tuesday’s storm was just south of DC, so it’s not like the same weather patterns aren’t around, it’s just the snow/rain line is further south because we are colder this year.

Of course, part of why we are colder is because the west coast is warmer (or not because, maybe in the same manner that), the cold air slipped down and to the east.

It is likely that if the temperature of the earth did increase by a couple of degrees, that there could be more violent storms (although not really because the warmer air would carry additional moisture, but because the warmer it is, since “cold” is fixed at 0 degrees kelvin, the greater temperature differentials can occur, meaning more violent weather).

The entire “global warming” scare is more politically motivated than motivated by any science. It’s no coincidence that Al Gore has been pushing it, or that the Democrats in Congress are all acting on it. There’s lots of money and political capital to be made out of it.

I read on the AP that Obama's polls are down just because the economy is not doing very well. Has nothing at all to do with him. Oh no!

[According to Dalton’s LAW of gasses air has no capacity to “hold” water. Therefore the entire argument made in the NY Times...water caused by the heat/energy. Air has no ability to hold water at any time or at any temperature. It’s the law.]

I believe it has been established that the entire left is not subject to “the law”
