State Insurance Experts See Flaw in Obamas Plan to Curb Health Premiums (will cause insolvencies)
New York Times ^ | March 8, 2010 | Robert Pear
Posted on Tuesday, March 09, 2010 5:54:44 AM by reaganaut1
At the heart of President Obamas drive to rein in health costs is a proposal for federal review and regulation of health insurance premiums, with a new agency empowered to block excessive rate increases.
State officials are leery of the proposal, which raises a host of questions: How would Congress define excessive? How would the new federal power relate to state insurance regulation?

WASHINGTON -- A "fired-up" President Obama yesterday took the fight of his political life out of the Capitol's intractable committee rooms and into the heartland -- staging a desperate campaign-like rally to try to win support for health-care reform.
The president mustered all of the optimism and oratory of the 2008 election in a bid to rescue reform -- and protect his party's congressional majority and possibly even his chances for a second term.
A reminder of the Marxist garbage in the healthcare bill Emanuel is threatening Democrats to pass

The wild uncontrolled extremes of Rahm Emanuels efforts to ram through Obamas Marxist health care bill seem to have no limits. Threatening Eric Massa even while both men where nude in a House gym shower room wasnt too much for the maniacal Emanuel.
Common sense dictates that Congress would not have to be threatened to vote for a bill their constituents loved and wanted.
Massa of course is an unprincipled moron who originally voted No because the bill wasnt Leftist enough, but in the world of real America this bill is recognized as the dung pile it is.
Heres a refresher on what stinks about it, and why we have to fight it with all our strength.

Changes in ObamaCare will require businesses to count part-time workers for coverage penalties

Much of the focus on the stalled ObamaCare effort comes from the opposition of Blue Dog Democrats to the removal of the Stupak amendment in the Senate bill, allowing for federal abortion funding if Congress fails to renew the Hyde Amendment. The rest of the attention has gone to the changes being made in a parallel bill, one that the Senate will use reconciliation to pass to resolve disputes between the House and Senate over taxation and budgeting. Those arent the only changes being contemplated, however, as the AP reports:
A Democratic aide says a new provision in the health care bill will require businesses to count part-time workers when calculating penalties for failing to provide coverage.

The bill originally passed by the Senate only penalized businesses for full-time workers who weren't covered. The Senate bill is being used as the basis for a final package President Barack Obama wants Congress to pass in the next few weeks.
Health Reform Passes the Cost Test

Many people are worried that the health-care reform proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats will fail to bend the "cost curve." A number of commentators are urging no votes because of this, and Republicans have asked the president to start health reform over, focusing squarely on the issue of cost reduction. These calls overlook the actual legislation. Over the past year of debate, 10 broad ideas have been offered for bending the health-care cost curve. The Democrats' proposed legislation incorporates virtually every one of them.

In the entire health care debate, among all the competing lawmakers, politicians, experts and pundits, there's just one person who has seen things from both sides of the political aisle. That is Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, who was elected as a Democrat in 2008 and was part of the House Democratic caucus until last Dec. 22, when he switched sides to become a Republican. (Republican-turned-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter doesn't count, because he switched parties in April 2009, before the current health care debate got underway.)

According to the latest Rasmussen poll the vast majority of Americans (57%) feel that Obamacare will hurt the economy. Only 25% say it will hurt the economy, seven percent (7%) say it will have no impact.

The White House promised a hard pivot to jobs and the economy almost three months ago, attempting to put the ObamaCare debate on the back burner after the holidays. They had belatedly discovered that the electorate was much more concerned about the economic plunge than in retooling a health-care system that works for most Americans now. Instead of the hard pivot, Democrats have doubled down on ObamaCare and the latest Rasmussen survey shows that a strong majority believe it to be the wrong direction on both issues:

"None of us has mentioned the 18th, other than Mr. Gibbs," Hoyer said in response to a question about whether Congress can pass a health care package by March 18, the date laid out last week by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. "We are trying to do this as soon as possible. That continues to be our objective."
In the meantime, Hoyer said an internal fight over abortion restrictions "has to be resolved."

In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obamas announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the fixer bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.
