Texas ed board vote reflects far-right influences (total AP MELTDOWN!!!)

AUSTIN, Texas – A far-right faction of the Texas State Board of Education succeeded Friday in injecting conservative ideals into social studies, history and economics lessons that will be taught to millions of students for the next decade.

Teachers in Texas will be required to cover the Judeo-Christian influences of the nation's Founding Fathers, but not highlight the philosophical rationale for the separation of church and state. Curriculum standards also will describe the U.S. government as a "constitutional republic," rather than "democratic," and students will be required to study the decline in value of the U.S. dollar, including the abandonment of the gold standard.

"We have been about conservatism versus liberalism," said Democrat Mavis Knight of Dallas, explaining her vote against the standards. "We have manipulated strands to insert what we want it to be in the document, regardless as to whether or not it's appropriate."

Following three days of impassioned and acrimonious debate, the board gave preliminary approval to the new standards with a 10-5 party line vote. A final vote is expected in May, after a public comment period that could produce additional amendments and arguments.

Would it be possible for conservatives to infiltrate the NEA?

Nobody actually reads textbooks, but it’s good to know that on the off chance that some kid might actually start reading one of these textbooks while he is sitting on the john and wishing he had a smoke, that he might actually learn some important truths about this nation.

OMG! They actually went and inserted a correct definition! Only in Texas!

The article is worth a read. We even got a section discussing the Second Amendment!!!!!!!!!!!

We smoked ‘em!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, when she writes “right wing” or “ultra right wing” just substitute “main stream Texas thought” and you’ll get the real flavor.

Freepers ARE reading Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals”.

Since Team Obama, Reid, Pelosi has labeled us as “Radical”...That is JUST fair-play!

What's “far right” about that? Seems like normal American history/culture to me.
Can't say the same about the agenda of the far left loonies at the AP though.

Democrats did score a victory by deleting a portion of an amendment by Republican Don McLeroy suggesting that the civil rights movement led to "unrealistic expectations for equal outcomes."

LOL! Somebody make a bumper sticker for that one.

From the article: ``Conservatives beat back multiple attempts to include hip-hop as an example of a significant cultural movement.''

As the resident fuddy-duddy, that alone would make this a great victory.

What's “far right” about that? Seems like normal American history/culture to me.

Some board members failed Friday to restore “hip hop” music to the draft proposal's high school social studies standard on culture.

The board's seven social conservatives, joined by Geraldine “Tincy” Miller, R-Dallas, considered some of the hip hop lyrics offensive and voted to eliminate hip hop as an option for students to consider.

Yes... conservatives (true lovers of the US Constitution) have figured out how to be COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS... well whadda-ya-know!

Hey Obama, guess what? We skipped community organizing, we're AMERICA ORGANIZING into the biggest awake Sleeping Giant the world has ever seen. You've made Pearl Harbor look small in comparison. Millions of Americans are daily finding out more and more about your communist background and your intentions for our Sacred Constitutional Republic. We are awake, robust and ready to Fight! We are organized and will continue to Fight You until you resign, are impeached or surrender. We shall Alinsky back atcha' at every turn. We will attend more Tea Parties, go to Town Halls, write our Senators and Congressman, Petition, Blog, pass on Patriotic emails and carefully monitor your every move. We shall defeat every Bill you propose and diligently have an Army of People to fight your every communist political move. We are on to you and your minions. We are in a Cold War with you and fighting every day, 24/7, 365 days a year. We shall never surrender!
