The White House is backing down from efforts to drop "sweetheart" deals poisoning health care legislation as House Budget Committee Democrats meet Monday to craft a "fix-it" bill that does not yet have a price tag.
In a new take on its policy, White House top strategist David Axelrod said President Obama only objects to state-specific arrangements, such as an increase in Medicaid funding for Nebraska, ridiculed as the "cornhusker kickback."
But instead of dropping them, the concept behind those deals could be widened so that all states benefit.
Though White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs last week singled out state-specific deals as items Obama wanted removed, two powerful committee chairman, Democratic Sens. Max Baucus of Montana and Chris Dodd of Connecticut, have convinced the White House that the arguments being applied for special offers could be expanded to other states where similar circumstances arise.

No concern whatsoever about impropriety, constitutionality, bribery.
Brazen and smug about it.
As long as this guy remains more popular than unpopular... expect this to continue.
Obama 49.0% 45.9% +3.1%
Well, I hope the Rats get just that... broke.
As was said by a very wise Rush Limbaugh a year ago, Obama’s words expire 5 minutes after he says it. That famous exchange with McCain at the summit is now invalid.
If we don’t use the word “earmarks”, does that make it OK?
Depends what poll, and does Bummer even care that much about polls? He had the chutzpah to rate himself A-.
It’s our money they are using as bribes!! Yikes.
He’s actually dropping all false pretenses. Coming out from behind the curtain. etc etc etc.
Yes, third world politics at it’s finest!
If this thing passes, the new taxes are going into the general fund so these fools can think of new pet projects to spend our money. No lock box here!
No concern whatsoever about impropriety, constitutionality, bribery.
Brazen and smug about it.
Yup... that's the way it looks to me, Laz.
FReepers: Don't stop calling and putting pressure on those Congress critters!
“We are no longer against bribing representatives and senators for their votes.”
“We are now supportive of efforts to provide large incentives to representatives and senators in return for their vote in favor of Obamacare.”
“This is just politics. You have to give a little to get a little. I scratch your back, you scratch my back.”
All of this is quid pro quo. Paying for votes via bribes is illegal, the last time I checked.
This is going to be the issue, along with the massive upcoming tax increases and skyrocketing debt, that are going to cause the second revolution in this country. I don’t relish it, pray to God it doesn’t happen.
Unfortunately that’s one of the acceptable end goals of Obama. It will usher in the post-American world he wants to run because it takes down the last superpower. He’s either going to destroy this country slowly, or quickly. He doesn’t care, either path is good, they lead to the same place, just at different paces and have various pros and cons (in his opinion).
So brazen and smug one might think they're holding someone ransom or there's major blackmailing. Just sayin'.
Didn’t he do this right after the CBO scored the bill? If so, will the CBO redo with new numbers?
Thanks for the ping!

Obama 49.0% 45.9% +3.1%
That is the fiendish Alinskyite side of driving Pelosi and Reid’s poll numbers into the toilet. The great unwashed out there blame those two, even though all of the machinations are coming out of the White House.
If you bribe one state,49 others pay for it. If you bribe 50 (or 57 if you go by Nobamas math) then you have to Borrow. From China. Then our anscestors will be even more indebted.
