Pak Priest Sacrifices 3 Daughters Omer Farooq Khan Mar 24, 2010 ISLAMABAD: A Hindu priest committed suicide after killing his three minor daughters, all under 6-year-old, to please Hindu goddess Kali Mata in Bhemomal area of Sind province on Tuesday.

According to police and eyewitnesses, religious rituals were regularly performed at the Kali Mata Temple established on the first floor of a house owned by Tekam Das Meghwar in Bhemomal. Reports say that Tekam Das Meghwar first slaughtered his three daughters, Parwati, 6-year-old, Reena, 4, and Aarti, 1, with a sharp knife and then slit his own throat to make Kali Mata happy.

Moulchand, brother of deceased Tekam Das Meghwar said, “My deceased brother was Hindu priest of Kali Mata and he performed pooja the whole night but in the early morning when power supply failed he slaughtered his three daughters before committing suicide with a sharp weapon.”

SHO Taluka police Rasool Bux Thaheem told media that after post mortem the bodies of the three sisters and their father were handed over to their heirs.

Initial police investigation suggested that Tekam Das Meghwar, early on Tuesday morning, entered the residential portion of the house, asking his wife, Pavi, to bring milk from a nearby shop. Investigators believe that taking advantage of solitary Tekam Das slit throats of his three daughters.

The ill-fated mother told police that "when I returned home, I saw heads of three girls in a cradle placed in room. Body of Tekam Das also lay in a pool of blood with his throat slit." She started screaming on which neighbours rushed to the house.

Another Hindu priest Bhagat Ashok told media that act of Tekam Das was foolish and it was illegal to offer sacrifice of even animals in Hindu religion. The incident spread panic in the town of Mirwah Gorchani as hundreds of people gathered at the spot.

That poor mother. There's no way she wasn't driven insane from the sight of it all.

Prayers for her.

The funny thing is that Hinduism has a nearly infinite supply of deities to worship. There are devotees of at least 5,000 different gods of all temperaments and inclinations, and 330,000,000 others waiting to be chosen and given names and associations. Why pick bloodthirsty Kali when you could choose wise Ganesh, sensual Kama, or the wealth and abundance of Lakshmi? With the right deity you can love your fellow man and eat and drink and be merry all your life. It’s probably the most pleasant and least demanding religion of all if you choose your personal Ishta Devata carefully.

Hinduism is actually very similar to the religion of pre-Christian Rome, the practice of which depended upon the social and educational level of those involved. At a lower level, they had a multiplicity of gods who needed to be propitiated in various ways, they practiced ancestor and emperor worship, and they also threw in a bit of fertility cult behavior; more educated people, on the other hand, had moved almost entirely into philosophical realm and were more or less monotheist, regardless of the ceremonies they had to perform to satisfy social expectations. Perhaps. What is for sure is that the Roman Empire in the West didn't last much past the conversion from Hellenic Paganism to Christianity. Constantine II's rule ended in 340 AD, Rome fell sometime in the next century, depending on who's milestone you like. I've always liked the sack of Rome in 410.

About 70 years from the overthrow of the religious underpinnings of the society to it's cataclysmic demise.

Projecting into our time, America was staunchly Christian for our entire history. A date we could conveneintly use for the end of that would be somewhere between Engel v. Vitale in 1962 outlawing prayer in public schools, and 1970's Roe v. Wade. Taking the earlier date we only have about 20 years until the sack of Washington D.C. might complete the parallel.

Note: This analysis provided for fun, I'm not actually suggesting strict circular repitition in history. Nor am I blaming Christianity for the fall of Rome.

First, the rules allow no more than 300 words of text. Second, what has the saying of “another Hindu priest” got to do with the slaughter of three innocent kids offered by a Hindu priest as sacrifice to a deity in this day and age? If this doesn’t bring universal condemnation, what will?

Not good comparison. God in his infinite wisdom new those children and infants, would grow to be adult Amalekites. Of the 613 mitzvot (commandments) followed by Orthodox Jews, three refer to the Amalek: to remember what the Amalekites did to Jews, to not forget what the Amalekites did to Jews, and to destroy the Amalekites utterly. The rabbis derived these from Deuteronomy 25:17-18, Exodus 17:14 and 1 Sam. 15:3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amalek#War_of_extermination_against_the_Amalekites They were like Muhammad's Muslims: immoral, terrorizing, plundering, enslaving, and murdering. Too bad He stopped there. "If there was a positive quality to their lives, it was consistency. They were never anything but cruel and cowardly people, were always at odds with Israel, and were never shown mercy from God. If in your reading of the Bible the Amalekites show up, you now may already know that they will abuse some innocent, helpless victim and that, in the end, God will destroy them." http://www.isaiah58.com/broadcasters/amel.htm

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong..
But didn’t God command that this entire race be wiped out because, as God, he could forsee that the Amalikites (sp) would continue to persecute the Jews into infinity. I believe they are the forbearers of the Palestinians today.
Because of His love for His chosen people he wanted to spare them what He knew was comming. Unfortunately, there were liberals even back then who chose not to obey and the race still suffers today because of that disobedence.

That’s rot.

Times of India requires no article abstraction. Your choice of leaving that tid-bit out was with malicious intent, and is plainly obvious.

Secondly, to say that an insane person, by himself a phenomenal statistical abnormality among a billion-odd Hindus, represents Hinduism, it utterly idiotic. The equivalent would be to cite Hitler’s Catholic history or to compare Haitian Catholicism , or even Italian “saint”-centred superstition and witchcraft, and then label that as Christianity.

If you can find the advocacy of child slaughter in the Gita, do so. I could do it with regard to the Old Testament, where a clear commandment has been delivered to murder children and infants, in a most barbaric manner. The ethical system you claim your own, is powerless to justify why innocent children need to be put to death, other than with silly nonsense like “God already knew” etc., which is what Muslims use to justify terrorism.

There you go again. We are talking of a barbaric and filthy Hindu ritual known as pooja involving the butchering of three innocent children by a Hindu prelate as an offering to a Hindu deity in the context of compliance with a Hindu text and then commits suicide in this day and age. This is not some isolated act.

It is a product of a religious culture in an environment in a land where the waves of the Enlightenment Period never reached it shores and where casteism is irredeemably wedded to religious belief and ritual.

Indians wedded to this culture are like oil and water in the context of western civilizations where aided and abetted by verses in the Gita they cling to a belief promoted by mythical re-incarnated beings functioning as deities advocating mass violence and murder.

Using skewed passages from the Old Testament to explain this pooja barbarism or make ridiculous analogy to Hitler’s “Catholicism” exposes the utter defect of your attempts to whitewash this barbarity.

LOL, really?

How many such incidents per 1,000,000 Hindus, last year?

Please quote line and verse, regarding the "textual" prescription to commit child-slaughter, while you're at it. Compare it with 1 Samuel 15: 2-3, for bonus points.

It is a weak, and rather pathetic non-explanation to wish away mandated religious child-slaughter and child-sacrifice, as per the Old Testament.

If the illogic in the basis for the verse were any true, would you prescribe the same, to similar situations, today?

Using skewed passages from the Old Testament.

Skewed? Help me identify the "skew" here:

"Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'"

- 1 Samuel 15: 2-3.

That is, like, soooooooo quaint!!! Don't you just looooooove Little Brown People [I know; these people are "Aryans" but just play along, okay?] and their beautiful, indigenous folk customs? Unfortunately, Western Cultural Imperialists and their shock troop of Inbred Racist Rednecks want to destroy the beautiful tapestry of human cultures because they hate anyone who isn't like them!

Now excuse me while I worship science and work for its ultimate triumph over religious barbarism! [/////Heavy sarcasm]

Passing long tracts of nonsense, written by two-bit authors, has always been your strategy of avoiding having to answer directly. This is the second time you have passed me this garbage. I am not the only one who has called out this trick of yours, either.

I take it that you are incapable of providing an answer to any of what was asked of you, especially the part about the Old Testament’s violence.

Whatever patchwork you have used to hold up the aforementioned scripture’s faulty logic, in your mind to convince yourself, will break down, whether you like it or not.

From your little booklet:

This sort of propagandist, racist, hyperbolic garbage puts Black Panthers and Black Liberation Theologists to shame.

Are you the author of this masterpiece?
