CNN Fails to Stop Fall in Ratings BILL CARTER March 29
CNN continued what has become a precipitous decline in ratings for its prime-time programs in the first quarter of 2010, with its main hosts losing almost half their viewers in a year.
The trend in news ratings for the first three months of this year is all up for one network, the Fox News Channel, which enjoyed its best quarter ever in ratings, and down for both MSNBC and CNN.
CNN had a slightly worse quarter in the fourth quarter of 2009, but the last three months have included compelling news events, like the earthquake in Haiti and the battle over health care, and CNN, which emphasizes its hard news coverage, was apparently unable to benefit.
The losses at CNN continued a pattern in place for much of the last year, as the network trailed its competitors in every prime-time hour. (CNN still easily beats MSNBC in the daytime hours, but those are less lucrative in advertising money, and both networks are far behind Fox News at all hours.)
About the only break from the bad news for CNN was that March was not as bad as February, when the network had its worst single month in its recent history, finishing behind not only Fox News and MSNBC, but also its sister network HLN and even CNBC, which had Olympics programming that month.
CNN said that they will not change their approach to prime-time programs, which are led by hosts not aligned with any partisan point of view.
But the numbers are stark: For the networks longest-running host, Larry King, who has always been regarded at CNN as the centerpiece of prime time because he drew the biggest audiences at 9 p.m., the quarter was his worst ever.

Snicker :-)
“CNN said that they will not change their approach to prime-time programs, which are led by hosts not aligned with any partisan point of view.”
LOL!
Beat me!
How much is 525 OF 4 PEOPLE??
I find it both amusing and appalling that the network bosses at CNN and MSNBC are allowing their ratings to plummet like this. I’m sure they are reading this, so I’ll address this to you network bosses:
So, how STUPID are you? Dont’ you get it? Americans are TIRED....of your biased reporting. How exactly do you explain that Fox is rolling in the dough, and you guys continue to lose audience? Do you have a clue? Don’t you realize it’s because you are NOT balanced? Don’t you realize that Americans are tired of seeing you being the lap DOGS of this corrupt White house? How can you call yourselves journalists when you clearly lean left all the time? Why did you ignore the Van JOnes story? That was NEWS, get it? Why did you ignore Climate gate? Why are you reporting the LIES about violence and racism in the tea parties, yet you IGNORE the violence against the GOP offices, the eggs thrown at Breitbarts bus by racist Libs, the bricks thrown at GOP offices in VA and MI?
Don’t you see that the public knows how biased you are? YOu are a disgrace to journalism. when you HIDE news, that is almost as bad as lying. Why did you believe the charges of racism at the washington tea parties when you had no proof? How can you be journalists when you don’t investigate? Why did you perpetuate LIES against Rush Limbaugh when you had NO proof?
Why do you insult Palin all the time, and let the corrupt Obama get away with numerous errors and lies?
And, Americans are tired of your left wing WACKOS like Matthews, Olbermann, Maddow, Behar, Campbell Brown, Rick Sanchez, Shuster, etc.
When you are biased, and carry double standards, you are no longer credible. And when you are not credible, Americans don’t trust you. And when we don’t trust you....well, you are pretty much dang useless as a news organziation, aren’t ya?
If you are not going to clean your act up for the sake of journalism, then do it for your shareholders. You have a duty to the shareholders of GE and Time Warner to raise revenues. You are failing both as journalists, as well as corporate executives.
Epic fail, all around. Shame on all of you.
Larry who? I though he had died years ago...
We know that their math is off. Dozens of people at the Searchlight Tea Party is CNN math. The reality was probably 10,000+ at the Searchlight event. This is really good news to see CNN in a free fall.
Give me the time frame when CNN was doing "responsible journalism".
Well said.
It’s funny sometimes to hear liberals claim that Fox is not fair and balanced, and that Fox is so right wing, etc. Yet these same liberals, who claim to want unbiased journalism, have nothing to say about obvious bias at CNN and especially MSNBC.
So they get peeved because they don’t think Fox lives up to their advertising claims, but are not peeved that a blatantly liberal network such as MSNBC is so biased. Go figure...........
First Gulf war.
Chew on that Mr 0bama. So much for 0bama's war on Fox. Fox is lucky in it's enemies.
NYT is deeply saddened.
The Communist News Network is using propaganda, and there Americans wise to this game...
Admitting that he only breaks to watch "all those idiots on Jeopardy making fools of themselves"....
