Palin's appearance at CSU Stanislaus draws assemblyman's challenge
Contra Costa Times ^ | 3/30/10 | Steven Harmon

SACRAMENTO — Sarah Palin typically generates controversy with what she says.

Now the former vice presidential candidate is creating a buzz over how much she'll make at a black-tie gala she plans to headline at Cal State Stanislaus.

How much she is commanding for her June 25 appearance at the $500-per-ticket affair won't be known because her contract with the CSU Stanislaus Foundation stipulates secrecy. It's the secrecy that rankles state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, who is calling for full disclosure.

"The CSU should immediately disclose how much money is being diverted from students to pay Sarah Palin's exorbitant speaking fees," Yee said in a statement accompanying a letter to the university's president, Hamid Shirvani.

"At a time when students are struggling to afford an education at CSU, I would hope that spending potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars on a guest speaker for a black-tie gala would be low on the priority list.

Yee described Palin as "an out-of-touch former politician" and said the money should be spent on scholarships and financial aid.

To start with people are paying $500 a pop to go to this appearance, that is where the money is coming from to pay Sarah. The frickin’ left have no shame.

They don’t teach free market capitalism in SF. All money comes from government don’t you know?

The CSU should immediately disclose how much money is being diverted from students to pay Sarah Palin's exorbitant speaking fees

Palin's honorarium will come from an endowment fund specifically established for these events. There will be no student's money diverted.

As a matter of fact, the fund is probably set-up so that the money can't be used for any other purpose but to bring in public speakers.

They already do question our salaries. They torment the private sector with rules and regulations, regressive taxation and the imbecile Ken Feinberg the pay czar, who may not do so yet, but wants the power to set your salary and every body elses in the private sector.

This is the guy who not only thinks that illegal aliens should be welcomed in, but that invasive species should not be discriminated against by environmentalists.

He is also known for proposing that the California Building Standards Commission should add the principles of Feng Shui to its rules and requirements. Just what California needs: more mandated rules.

""The CSU should immediately disclose how much money is being diverted from students to pay Sarah Palin's exorbitant speaking fees," Yee said in a statement accompanying a letter to the university's president, Hamid Shirvani.
"

I would say with the legal harassment and threats that Palin has received from the left, she is forced to charge the high fees to insure the safety and security of her family.

It's all about the money and the control...they want to control ALL of the money. They are thieves, pure and simple.

Now about the "out of touch politician"...IF the left says someone is "out of touch" that means that the person is not cowtowing to their socialist/communist agenda...and that is all it means.

Sarah knows what is going on, politically and otherwise, and the left knows that she knows...that's why they are so scared and fight so hard against her and others who are getting the truth out.

So, if this guy, Yee, is running for some office, this declaration of his is a big "look at me" statement to his left coast supporters of obamanism.

Did anyone ask Yee how much of a speaking fee HE can command?

First, perhaps I’m mistaken, but my impression is that university foundations like the CSU Stanislaus Foundation exist to raise money for their campi, faculty and students, not the other way around. So it’s not as if the students are being forced to pay fees to cover this. And I’m skeptical that her speaking fee is anything but a trivial drain on the CSU Stan endowment fund. Her fee almost certainly isn’t that large, and more to the point, if their fundraisers have any clue at all what they’re about, the endowment fund isn’t that small.

Second, I submit that Mrs. Palin is only “formerly” a politician in the sense that she is not at this moment being paid by any government to be one. And given what the California state legislature, and specifically the Democrats in the majority, have been up to lately, I think I’d be very, very careful about referring to anyone else, let alone Mrs. Palin, as “out-of-touch”.

This D-retard should talk to Obama about secrecy and full disclosure. Palin is not an elected government employee thus need not reply.

So what is an exorbitant speaking fee. No one forces them to pay for Sarah’s speaking. She is offering something that is hers for sale. The university can take it or leave it. It seems that I have a right to keep secret my pricing if I wish.

I fear that no one is going to be allowed to sell anything, including labor and expertise, unless a union and the Federal government receive a cut. The unions and the government will, of course, decide the percentage or amount of that fee. Eventually, we will all be forced to join some *union* or not be able to work unless we get rid of all this ASAP.
