I agree on all counts. I don’t watch his show and don’t want to be one of the “folks” he’s “looking out for”, but I will give him credit for this act of paying the bill for the man. It is what we Catholics call a “corporal work of mercy” and a good deed.
My respect for BOR has just jumped significantly.
I always thought BOR was too complacent an individual but this shows the man has guts and I applaud him for what he did. I hope he is able to do more to help this man and his family in their hour of grief and need.
so you’re saying he licked or chewed the check before handing it over?
The $16.5K was for the appeal trial. I wonder if Bill will fork over the $95K for the 1st trial?
Completely agree. This would be the best approach, imo.
I don’t care much for BOR. However, good for him in this instance.
Hats off to BOR.
Those Westboro Baptist Church folks must have some EXCELLENT security.
They Insult, ridicule and piss off the most deadly faction of Americans and still suck air daily.
Kudos to BOR.
I read his book "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity" (Christmas gift). I have a different understanding for BO after reading the book. This gesture by Bill comes as no surprise after reading about his past!
Has this judge been identified and brought into the public light? He’s disgusting.
re: This is not a freedom of speech or freedom of assembly issue. It is a decency and moral issue. There are national and state laws forbidding such behavior and obviously those laws were broken by the protestors.
I agree with you. I don’t see how a private funeral can be “protested” as a matter of free speech. That sounds like trespassing to me.
What’s the difference if someone shows up at a Wedding and starts protesting it? These are private events - not political rallies or politicians giving a public speech. How the court could rule the way they did is beyond comprehension to me. What am I missing?
Good for Bill O... watch the IRS agents circle in for the father if he doesn’t claim this “gift” as a “gift” on his income taxes.
Thanks for the post, the back ground of Fred Phelps’ “Church” is very interesting.
Notice that they picket military funerals, but never seem to show their "God hates fags" signs at the funeral of a gay man, nor do they ever show at Gay Pride type events.
They showed up at some early high profile gay funerals (e.g. Matthew Shepard), but they probably found they got far fewer death threats when they took their schtick to military funerals.
You folks are awesome. Thank you.
I am honored to do it, and thank you for your kind words!
BTW, Mr B is a Nebraskan, too!
;0)
Actually, I think the Patriot Guard was formed in response to Westboro.
The main reason no one touches these scum is because the “church” is full of lawyers. Their main way of making money to support their “church” (and I use that word VERY loosely in this case) is to file ridiculously exorbitant lawsuits on folks who do get fed up and try anything to remove them. Doesn’t matter if you’re a police force or a private citizen: if you try to remove them or their filthy, evil signs, they will will sue your a$$ into the next century.
Nonetheless, I’d love to see a whole passel of ‘1%ers’ go utterly medieval on these pondscum.
Good on him!
