Ron Paul: Why didn’t the north just buy the south’s slaves and free them that way?

Getting down to the last two questions here…. Most people consider Abe Lincoln to be one of our greatest presidents, if not the greatest president we’ve ever had. Would you agree with that sentiment and why or why not?

No, I don’t think he was one of our greatest presidents. I mean, he was determined to fight a bloody civil war, which many have argued could have been avoided. For 1/100 the cost of the war, plus 600 thousand lives, enough money would have been available to buy up all the slaves and free them. So, I don’t see that is a good part of our history.....

“Most folks probably have fond memories of where they grew up. However, I was not surprised when people from my Southern research lab who transferred to our Northern research lab all wanted to come back and indeed did come back, and almost all of the folks who transferred to our lab from the Northern lab asked to stay (I know of only one who went back). PhDs, the lot of them, many of them Northerners from Northern schools. It was a quality of life thing.”

Just Another Truism from Rustbucket :)

I had a long conversation with a fella from Alabama yesterday. He missed home too.

Its just different.

This Alan Jackson song hits the nail on the head:

The only cojones that you know about are the ones resting on your chin, little yapper.

Never mind that he is lettered.

Something that would have been verboten in the confederacy. Besides he's lettered in economics, not history. That much is obvious from his attempts at posting on the rebellion.

I kinda feel for those who can never know what it is to be a son or daughter of the South.

I've never come across a group of people more arrogant with less to be arrogant about than Lost Causers. Keep your phony pity. Don't waste your sorrow, assuming it's sincere. I'm not a son of the South, never wanted to be a son of the South, and don't consider myself deprived because I was born and raised in the North.

Damn right it is and in a few minutes I'll be catching one of my horses and heading up to the place where I took the picture below for a day ride.

BTW, what do you think about a person that calls himself a conservative but references the likes of Jon Stewart to back him up? I'd call that person a Troll, wouldn't you?

You mean the 'river rats'. I like the looks on their faces when my horse decides to take a dump in the river.

BTW, are you from around these parts?

Relax, non-seq. We know what you're a son of.

Obviously not a son of the South since my parents were married - to each other - and they weren't first cousins.

Someone with a sense of humor? Which obviously leaves you out.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got my Union Victory Appreciation Month celebration to attend. My neighbor is hosting it. He'll be smoking a pair of pork butts which we've christened 'Robert Lee' and 'Stonewall Jackson'. Once he's done we're going to kick them around for a while then grill steaks. Kansas City strips.

Can't say as I am, but my folks visited once. Took the tour back in '64.

Absolutely he doesn’t have the cojones to do anything he claims to on the internet.

He’s an internet bully, he sucks at math, and he thinks Obama is my boy.

In baseball, that would be the Golden Sombrero. LOL

And I’m still waiting on him to deliver my pizza. He’s late and after 30 minutes I’m not paying LOL

... my parents were married - to each other - and they weren't first cousins.

A brother and sister judging from your posts. No mere first cousins for you. Proud of that, are you?

As far as Southerners go, clearly you've been watching and believing too many Deliverance reruns.

One of the things I always appreciated about your posts was that you tried to stay objective and leave the insults to Noni or the fools like cowpoke.

I guess I misjudged...
