Ron Paul: Why didn’t the north just buy the south’s slaves and free them that way?

Getting down to the last two questions here…. Most people consider Abe Lincoln to be one of our greatest presidents, if not the greatest president we’ve ever had. Would you agree with that sentiment and why or why not?

No, I don’t think he was one of our greatest presidents. I mean, he was determined to fight a bloody civil war, which many have argued could have been avoided. For 1/100 the cost of the war, plus 600 thousand lives, enough money would have been available to buy up all the slaves and free them. So, I don’t see that is a good part of our history.....

a bunch of states who wanted out of the family tree at any cost.

Actually, just about every nation ended slavery within a 20 year time frame. We were pretty much the last.

We switched over to Mexicans here in TX and the southwest around the turn of the century, (also the Californians switched to the Chinese) the NE switched over to Irish and Italians about the same time.

Then as a nation we switched over to Japanese and Taiwanese, Korean, and most recently we uberswitched to Chinese again. They didn’t actually have to move here for it.

But only the black slaves and the Mexicans (so far) and their descendants are making any headway in terms of retribution, at least politically speaking. The other slaves have learned that productivity and profitability is better achieved innovating and achieving, not running to the fed for special treatment.

My favorite tagline -and I cannot remember the author! - is.... If you have a right to my services, then I must be your slave.

I hope Bob ‘Serve Somebody’ Dylan is in the highest tax bracket.

>You are saying the idea behind the revolution was not a rejection of hereditary rule and that is absolutely incorrect.

No! I am saying that the revolution was the rejection of EUROPEAN CLAIMS of hereditary rule.

>That is not a deficiency in definition except upon your own part.

To claim that ALL hereditary claims are invalid necessarily means that you have NO inheritance from your parents. [E.G. the “Inheritance Tax” _should_ be 100%.]

>All men created equal means no Counts, no Barons, no Dukes and no Kings.

No, it does not. It means that ALL men have the same rights under the Law. (I.E. ‘Murder’ does not become A-OK when a king does it [see Nathan’s confrontation of David regarding Bathsheba/Uriah].)

>It was the idea behind the revolution, that a man calling himself king has no divine right to rule us. And they do not.

Tell that to Jesus when He comes back.

>Do you support the concept of our representative constitutional republic and the equality and natural rights of man?

Yes, I do; that is why I took an oath to defend that Constitution against Enemies Foreign and Domestic. However, I _DO NOT_ think that “Democracy” [or Republic] is the best form of government for all people regardless of society. [Consider Germany, which has always excelled under a King/Emperor/strong-paternal-figure.] Putting the former argument into the personal realm: as a child grounding me from TV wasn’t a big deal, books on the other hand were [contrary to MANY of today’s kids].

Truth?

Anyone who posts a moronic thing like that sincerely needs to see a shrink.

This is why he was the winner on the CPAC straw poll for President ...

CPAC 2010 was a joke. Between the GOProud/Log Cabin poofters and the Paulbot attendees, the fringe ruled. Ron Paul won the straw vote because 48% of the cpac voters were students. True conservatives either didn't vote or didn't attend at all. An attendee's description of the 'typical' Paul supporter:

Ron Paul supporters remind me of Basij militants in Iran. Ignorant, mentally challenged, thuggish & obsessive with their cult leader.

Or, maybe just young and naive.

“The fact that it was illegal to import new slaves wouldn’t have stopped people from bringing in more slaves unless slavery was abolished in the southern states.”

And just how many do you think they would’ve been able to get away with?

Your cranky Bircher/Liebertarian RINO hero thinks that Iran is not a threat and that 911 was an inside job.

What a guy.

He endorsed freaking, flaming marxist Cynthia McKinney, and he also pretends to be a fiscal conservative while being one of the biggest earmarkers and spenders in congress.

But don't confuse the issues for the poor Paul bot.

I took that oath as well. USAF.

The concept that all men were created equal was at the time a blatant slap in the face of the aristocracy. Our revolution was directly and vocally anti aristocracy and the supposedly divine right of Kings, and instead all about the UNIVERSAL natural rights of man. A constitutional republic of limited and enumerated powers was thought by them to be the only form of governance compatible with the natural rights of man.

Germany has done far better under constitutional republic governance than under a strong paternal Kaiser or Chancellor. Both for themselves and their neighbors.

Apparently you were grounded from books for far too long.
