Amen.
I’m sorry for the people that are unemployed. But 2 years of benefits out of my pocket are over the top. My taxes this year were outlandish, and my accountant said to plan on at least 15K more next year. I can’t afford all my new dependents, and don;t get to write them off! Now I get to figure out where to take another 1250/month out of the budget to give to uncle sam!
Thank you dear! It’s been a frustrating and terrifying 18 months but it gave me the time to work on some issues with my 18-year-old daughter who will soon be leaving the nest. So, yeah, everything happens for a reason and my faith is holding me together. I’m sorry for all that you went through... Thank you for your service to our country! That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, eh?
{{{hugs}}}
Unemployment benefits terminate after 6 months during normal economic conditions.
This isnt normal economic conditions. There are 6 candidates for every open job. The average laid off worker is jobless for 8 months.
When the jobs start coming back, then we can start milking people off the system. Until then, talking about cutting off unemployment benefits is a losing issue, politically.
This is from an abstract on Nat. Bureau of Econ. Research by Bruce Mayer (started on 1991)
..Higher UI benefits are found to have a strong negative effect on the probability of leaving unemployment. However, the probability of leaving unemployment rises dramatically just prior to when benefits lapse.
FWIW.

“99 weeks of unemployment compensation is enough.”
I guess that depends on how many mouths you have to feed.
That fact is a sad commentary on where our country has gotten. Damn New Deal softened Americans out of self-reliance.
Monster is such a waste. I do better (such as it is) with Craigslist. The company I left (hire people/burn them out/replace) would go to the absolute extremes to not fire anyone, no matter how worthless some people were. Instead just work them to death/lie about future (double hard my case being a competent person who got sold a bill of goods)/invent new policies every day that contradict existing policies / generally wear people down so they quit. I am just getting by on freelance and little contract gigs. At least my nerves aren’t totally shot nowadays....
“You pay (through the reduction of your salary) into the unemployment insurance fund for 30 years and you dont deserve a penny of it, you lazy slob, say the employed wise men of FR.”
I guess they’re still eating.
The maximum payment for a formerly middle-class wage earner is about $12.00 per hour. This is not enough to prevent an eventual slide into homelessness, and is certainly not an incentive to remain unemployed. At best it may delay ruin long enough for a real job to appear.
Ending these payments will not cause the unemployed to find jobs - there are no jobs. More specifically there are at least 5-6 qualified and unemployed applicants for every opening. That's a lot of people to throw into the dumpster.
Nor should one be overly impressed by the postings on the job boards or other classified advertising. There is much less there than you think. A majority of advertised job openings are duplications or completely fictitious (e.g the “employer” does not hire anyone within 6 months of the posting).
Yes - “unemployment benefits” should be extended time and time again. (No, they should not be increased)
By the time the state unemployment funds have become completely insolvent we will have much bigger problems to deal with than unemployment.
Yes - that is probably coming within the next twelve months.
I even applied at Wal-Mart and am hungry as is my family.
The Democrats continue to focus on the goodby bag and not on jobs.
They shall not be forgiven.
The Democrats don't care.
“I can assure you, that receiving unemployment benefits reduces the urge to go back to work.”
Perhaps for some but not for us with a work ethic.
I challenge all Freepers to be looking out for one-another in this way.
I’m gonna keep you in my prayers Dan, I wish you nothing but the best.
Ya know, that is probably exactly what it is! When I allow thoughts of the current regime, I’m madder than a frog in a dry well ... and don’t even get me started on the scum media!
In tech jobs isn’t there a requirement that the employers have to demonstrate that they cannot find candidates with particular sets of skills onshore before they can receive gummint permissions for 401B offshore visas? With the jungle of tech acronyms out there, you know wellthis ain’t hard to do! Has anyone ever seen 401B visas monkeys getting laid off? Thank you, globalist bushies!
Most of those jobs on Monster and such do not exist, they have already been filled by the good buddy system and they are posted for EEO. Been there, done that. Also, if you are over 50 years old,,,forget it, you are not going to get hired. Those punk-ass kid managers are not going to hire anyone with more education and experience than they have. They know damn well that you would end up with their jobs in a few months.
