If somebody works, they ought to get paid for it. I’ve got no problem with this.

Unless you are a high school student and still living at home, this is a terrible burden to gain experience. Many people cannot afford that kind of sacrifice.

Oh, please. These interns take these positions knowing they are gaining valuable training. They don’t have to take the position. If they want a paying job, they can find one.

Does this mean that the Obama campaign owes back wages to all those young ‘interns’ who worked to get him elected?

How about giving older people (who have the means to support themselves while this is going on) the same opportunities? Ageism!

Good intentions are more important than the havoc it will wreak on those that need to be “helped”.

The Obama administration's top law enforcement officer at the Labor Department, M. Patricia Smith, is targeting companies that give young people unpaid internships.

How many jobs has M. Patricia Smith ever created?

Unpaid internships are generally done for some type of school credit or as a part of a training program. They are a great experience for students and often have led to the intern being hired full time by the company involved. Think of it as taking a hands-on class in the practical application of some discipline; you are not being paid to take the class.

Is it me, or is EVERY SINGLE ACTION of the Obama Adminstration focused on lessening employment?

Monica Lewinsky turned her hands-on experience as an intern into fame, if not fortune. 150 years from now, her name will still be mentioned in the history books. Immorality begets immortality.

My son (the architect) was offered an internship with a small firm for the summer after his sophomore year. After a few weeks he was hired on a part time basis to supplement the staff. Full time the next summer. After graduation he was hired away by a larger firm; it took an extra year for him to get his masters because he was so busy working in the real world.

Take the opportunity, make it work.

Anyone of you dumb asses who think this is a good idea need to go to some other forum and hang out. you are definitely not conservatives. The government has no frickin' authority to interfere in the free enterprise system.

Don't want to be an intern? Don't be one. Learn the skills and get the experience some other way.

However, to say the government has the right to do this and that you have no problem with it means you are, indeed, a liberal dumbass.

This is not directed at you JohnRLott, but at all of the idiots on this thread, and others, that seem to think Bozo has the right idea in imposing his will on the American free enterprise system.

This is the government... they pay “volunteers”. The government is the last source we should look to for making economic policies and business decisions.
