Bubble bursts for Lib Dems

Nick Clegg's bubble has burst with the Lib Dems plunging back into third place in our exclusive poll today.

Labour has overtaken the Lib Dems, who have dropped four points since our poll last weekend.

The ComRes survey shows the Tories have stretched their lead by four points to 38 per cent. Labour remain unchanged on 28 per cent. The Lib Dems have had a four point drop to 25 per cent.

The survey also reveals neither Brown's disastrous meeting with "bigoted woman" Gillian Duffy or the final TV debate between Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Mr Clegg have had any real impact.

Asked if they agreed with the statement that they had changed their mind about who to vote for because of the PM's remark, an overwhelming 85 per cent said they had not.

And 75 per cent said the TV contests had not changed their minds. Only 19 per cent said the debates had affected how they would vote.

Our survey would leave Britain facing a hung Parliament with the Tories 11 seats short of a majority. If the results were repeated on Thursday, the Tories would have 315 seats, Labour 236 and the Lib Dems 69. Labour strategists were delighted by the first signs that Mr Clegg's bandwagon is failing. Just 47 per cent now say the Lib Dem leader should get a key role in the next Government against 64 per cent a fortnight ago. ComRes chairman Andrew Hawkins said: "Cleggmania isn't over, but it's looking a lot weaker. It might have had its day."

I am not sure how many seats the SNP is winning these days. Last time I was there, Labour was busy taking plenty of seats from the SNP in Scotland. Plaid Cymru in Wales..didn't even think they were still in business much, let alone winning many seats.
Thing is, with these projections, Labour will be short by a massive 80 seats. They are still going to find it harder to form a government from an alliance of SNP, Plaid Cymru or any other of the smaller parties, plus the Lib Dems, as compared to the Conservatives, who will need only 11 more seats, and could very well form alliances with any of the smaller parties and form a government, without the need for the Liberal Dems. The more coalition partners you need, the harder it is to form a goverment.

Nothing is 100% certain in any elections. But unless there is some kind of earthquake, and the polls change considerably in the next few days, the Conservatives will form the next government.

I’m not so sure. I think there is going to be much more volatility in this election. Odds are local factors and tactical voting are going to be much more evident, and the smaller parties are likely to do (relatively) well, which will take votes from all of the major parties. That’s going to make it a lot harder for the pollsters to predict the result.

Cameron has proposals to let parents create their own schools, let patients choose their own doctor, let voters fire their member of parliament, and to make Britain the most family friendly country in Europe. And he’s firm in his opposition for amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Cameron would make a great Prime Minister — I just hope he gets in.

If Obama had Cameron’s positions, we’d be in good shape. Unfortunately, though, we’ve got a Communist in the White House.
