Progressive Catholic groups vented outrage Friday over the decision of a Roman Catholic school in Massachusetts to rescind the admission of an 8-year-old student because his parents are lesbians.
"The idea that a child might be punished because he does not live with his two biologic parents is antithetical to notions of Christian charity and Catholic social justice," said Patrick Whelan, president of Catholic Democrats, in a statement Friday.

Is a sarcasm tag needed?
What about Church concern for all the other children? “lead us not into temptation” So what happens when the children are invited to socialize and thus get used to the idea of this different kind of “family”? And what will they learn about something that their own parents do not wish to expose them to ... expecially “up close and personal”? Could parents, in the future, be accused of bias and prejudice if they refuse to have their children socialize with this child outside the school setting??
These “parents” are using the child to further their own agenda. Since they obviously do not abide by the Church’s teachings they are obviously not sending the child to this school for its religious training ... so any other private school with a similar record for education would be more honest to enroll their child in.
Both his mother and father are lesbians? Wow...that's incredible.
Oh wait - they mean that his mother cohabitates with another woman.
Never mind...
Catholics fight maintenance of any standards at all...
Film at 11:59...
Me too. Lib nonsense junk.
Your nom de guerre is right-on in this argument.
How? ... esp. when the objective study showed that something like 80% of the abuse was by active homosexuals against adolescents/young teens. It would be hypocritical to still be hiding these facts re: placing children under the possible future influence of the homosexual lifestyle unnecessarily. No child should be forced into a setting of confusion ... and that would also include the child of the lesbians that is being used here.
Sounds like a whole load of fail.
That is a gigantic non sequitur.
I’m not Catholic, it really isn’t my business. I’m in support of them doing as they see fit...but... Would the church allow the children of known drug dealers, or the child of a prostitute? How about the children of mothers with live-in boyfriends?
I wonder how many of the children have parents who are divorced, adulterers, or fornicators? Minus all the political activism that behavior is just as wrong.
In my (former) co-worker's case, no. She had to get an annulment from her first husband (I'll be charitable and assume that marriage really WASN'T sacramentally valid) and re-marry her second husband in the Catholic Church for her daughter to get into Catholic school here. She lived in Maryland so that was probably Archdiocese of Washington.
It is, but very few people claim that adultery etc. are morally equivalent to faithful marriage.
Like I said before, it’s the business of these schools to do as they see fit. I support their decision. But, as someone from an evangelical background, I also observe the rejection of admission of “the children of sin” as a missed evangelism opportunity.
Agreed. These people have no scruple in using this poor child to promote their agenda. Typical. It’s always about them and being a victim.
The difference is that some things are immoral and are sins, but other actions also bad but are against natural law.
Anyway - here’s an explanation from Archbishop Chaput:
And here’s a snippet from the priest in the fray:
“The issue is not about our not accepting sinners. It is not about punishing the child for the sins of his or her parents. It is simply that the lesbian couple is saying that their relationship is a good one that should be accepted by everyone; and the Church cannot agree to that. People who are divorced do not say divorce is good. There are no pro-divorce parades. Divorce is a tragedy for everybody. So theres no comparing other issues to the issue of gay marriage. “
