Here is a real mess, that is much more confusing than Obama's ineligiblity.
It has occurred to me that Mitt Romney, may not be a natural born citizen, and may not even be a US citizen. I'll give the facts as I know them, and let you all research the Immigration Laws.
When Congress started cracking down on polygamy, Miles Park Romney (Mitt Romney's great-grandfather) and many other families, left the United States, 5 March 1885, moved to Mexico and began their own settlement.
Mitt Romney's paternal grandfather Gaskell Romney (18711955), fathered George Wilcken Romney, however, remained in Mexico until events during the Mexican Revolution forced his family to move back to the United States, when his son was still young. The year they moved back is unknown, but, the revolution started in 1910.
Mitt Romney's father, George Wilcken Romney (July 8, 1907 July 26, 1995) was born in Colonia Dublán, Galeana, in the Mexican state of Chihuahua one of the Mormon colonies in Mexico on July 8, 1907.
Here is the core issue. Under today's immigration law, Gaskell Romney would be considered a US citizen, because both of his parents were citizens, both of whom, did live for a while in the United States, however, his son, George Wilcken Romney was born in Mexico, to US citizen parents who had not yet spent one day on US soil. So exactly what was George Wilcken Romney true citizenship status? I believe that he would have been required to apply for naturalization, but he did not. How can Mitt Romney be considered a natural born citizen, when his father was possibly an illegal alien , and not a US citizen?
Masscare IS Obamacare,I like it, call it Massa-care
LOL!
Everybody else in America thinks that it was because of the brainwashing comment and low polling numbers, what is your source for this new theory?
See the link at comment 47. It is right in the Congressional record that G.W. Romney was not eligible.
But not to worry, he's not going to be president. Not with health care front and center. He can argue all he wants about how Romneycare != Obamacare, but the fine points will be lost in the noise.
Thank you for posting this important link.
Why has today’s Congress forgotten this debate? People apparently thought MUCH more clearly back in 1967.
I remember in school we were taught about what a natural born citizen of the U.S. was and I believe Romney’s name was part of this discussion.
Mitt Romney’s father, George, was Governor of Michigan and a serious candidate for President. This is getting beyond the absurd.
That seems to be nothing more than the usual practice of someone getting something into the congressional record, it did not have anything to do with, or interfere with George Romney’s campaigning.
Mitt Romneys father, George, was Governor of Michigan and a serious candidate for President.
Yes, but he was NOT eligible for office.
What debate? I didn't see a debate, it was just a guy reading something into the congressional record.
Huckabee, is that you?
That George Romney wasn’t eligible to be President. He was born in Mexico.
You are a professional....
His father ran for President in 1968, what was said about it then?
That he was born in Mexico and not eligible to be President.
I don’t recall any big stories on it, do you?
Look, just because George Romney was an ambitious man who wanted power doesn’t mean he automatically was eligible. One of the requirements to be President is that you must be a natural born citizen of the United States.
George Rommey was born in Mexico during 1907. He wasn’t eligible even though he ran for the office and was defeated.
What can I say? People were smarter then than now.
I remember my father discussing it at home.
Hell, McCain was born in the Republic of Panama. No part of Panamanian soil has ever been U.S. territory.
You recall any big stories on McCain not being eligible? I know he wasn’t eligible to President due to article 12, but no big stories made it into the MSM, did they?
So you think that McCain would have been blocked from the Presidency if he had been elected as the Republican President of the United States, I doubt it.
“His father dropped out of the race, when it was pointed out that he was born in Mexico.”
Wrong. He dropped out because he was incredibly far behind Nixon in 1968.
