I wish him well. A salute to him and his efforts. I hope he can speak freely now.

Statement: "Breaking: Joe Klein on CNN just said McChrystal has submitted his resignation!"

Response: A resignation may be a smart move.

Comment: Lord! The cost of living in a dying civilization. The fact that words, their usage and their implicit meaning are more important than actual events leaves one having to speculate at what is happening.

If Zero does not accept the resignation does that mean he has to kiss McCrystal’s ass?

Don’t expect any grand attack on Obama or the Rules of Engagement from General McChrystal just because he steps down or retires. Officers’ commissions last for the officers’ lifetimes. They are subject to recall until death and are subject to the UCMJ until death.

If General McChrystal gets too outspoken he will find himself in command of a radar station in Iceland or a weather station in Antarctica.

Who blames him for resigning...working for people who don’t give a rip about the troops or the country!

would be interesting to see if some of the ROE that the troops were complaining about were his idea or from the administration.

I can't imagine being enlisted with this clown as cic.

It was bad enough I was in during the Clinton years and they were bad.

I heard on Shep's show that McCrystal called up everyone that was mentioned in the article and offered an apology.

Everyone that is EXCEPT Obama.

With Obama's statement on McChrystal, it's obvious Obama is attempting to make an example of McChrystal — IF you speak out against Obama, there WILL be consequences.

That's why McChrystal must be supported while he's being bullied by Obama for speaking out, or others who follow McChrystal will be too intimidated to speak out against Obama's dangerous policies.

Obama doesn’t have a choice as to whether or not to “accept” it. He may be the C-in-C, but he doesn’t get to say to someone they have to stay when their ass is already out the door.

While the speculation about this incident is certainly interesting, I think our whole focus should be on what is best for our men and women fighting in Afghanistan and for victory in that country. Our progress there has been purchased at the cost of many lives and the consequences of failure there are too terrible to contemplate. Given our soft approach to the Middle East, Iran, Russia, etc., a failure in Afghanistan, at the hands of Islamic extremists would be the most devastating in our history. We must win there and the fate and ego of any particular person - be he the commander on the ground or the commander in chief should be secondary to the goal of victory.
