Statement By Gen. Stanley McChrystal
WBZ/AP ^ | 6-23-10

*snip*

This morning the President accepted my resignation as Commander of U.S. and NATO Coalition Forces in Afghanistan.

I strongly support the President's strategy in Afghanistan and am deeply committed to our coalition forces, our partner nations, and the Afghan people. It was out of respect for this commitment — and a desire to see the mission succeed — that I tendered my resignation.

Sounds a lot like McChrystal planned to commit an equivalent of the suicide by cop and get out of serving under Obama and his ROE, after he became "disappointed" in Obama...

If so, his execution of the plan was flawless.

Maybe he was trying to ingratiate himself with the Leftists- didn’t do him any more good than it did Bush. Waste of time.

He voted for Obama and was stupid enough to speak freely in front of Rolling Stone reporter. Just on the basis of those 2 things I wouldn’t vote for him for President. In addition, It doesn’t seem like he is doing that great a job in Afghanistan. The troops are unhappy with his rules of engagement and are blaming them for loss of lives. You can keep him for President in 2012. Right now I’m liking Bobby Jindal or Chris Christie.

I hope he stays long enough to qualify for a full pension, then "tells it like it is"

Knowing Obama's gigantic, room-filling ego, his notoriously thin skin for the slightest criticism and his sneering disdain for our military, his ready acceptance of McChrystal's resignation was almost inevitable. It's a loss, of course, but General Petraeus is an excellent replacement. This may yet work out for good.

From the AP story: Obama seemed to suggest that McChrystal's military career is over, including in his praise of the general that the nation should be grateful "for his remarkable career in uniform."

Generally, once a four-star general has been relieved of a command (or offers to resign his command position and the resignation is accepted by the president) he retires from the military service. I expect this is what General McChrystal will do. I hope he writes a book that sells well and becomes a consultant on military matters (for big bucks) on Fox News. At 55, the General has a lot of productive years left that I trust he'll use wisely.

“Our so-called president acts like a spoiled brat.”

That’s only because he is one. Throw in thug and bully as well. And don’t forget elitist, arrogant.....

The General demonstrated low moral character, poor judgement, and complete stupidity.
He voted for the known Mooslime, Commie, Chicago thug, doper, who isn’t even a Natural Born Citizen. He doesn’t belong in the military.

It is nauseating that a man like McChrystal has to kowtow to an ignorant, anti-American thug like Obama.

Most just want to end the fighting and come home. It’s always sad to visit the schools here and most have a long hallway covered with parents deployed and very often the kids have to face another soldier killed. I’m with you and don’t supposrt Obama but I havent been fighting such a long war and the families are falling apart with so many deployments.

He may write a tell-all. But it will be after Afghanistan is over. He wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize the troops.

BINGO

Look at the mans bio. AS much time in staff and ‘acedeminc’ positions as ‘real’ military postings.

I would vote for Storm’n Norman for Prez - but not this cat... or most General Officers, for that matter.

His first responsibility is to the troops under his command in the field. Those people calling for a full throated denunciation of the President by McC are not thinking clearly. That would be deeply unfair to the men he was commanding only yesterday. As a General he must put his responsibility first.

His resignation is curt and I think it communicates his true feelings, in an appropriatly veiled way. He supports “the President’s strategy in Afghanistan” but not the President, notably.

I think it’s just right. And as he moves further away from the conflict I’m sure we’ll hear more about his feelings on things.

I’m looking forward to read the article in Rolling Stone.

(Hey Rolling Stone is suddenly relevant again. The Taibi articles on Goldman and the financial crisis were among the best, now this news-making event. Weird. I’m pretty sure part of the turn around is Jann Wiener finally getting his hands off the controls.)

He would make a great President in 2012.

You must be kidding when and (IF)(?) he voted for this total incompetent military "C-i-C"(?)!!!

Honestly I don’t even think I could serve today’s military.
I could never salute BHO or follow any of his orders. I don’t want DADT being repealed and gheys making a spectacle in the military. I don’t like the political correctness of the military which allowed terrorists like like the Ft Hood shooter to fly under the radar.

“Just once I would like to see someone stand up to Obama and speak the truth...”

May I suggest watching Glenn Beck - 5PM or 2AM EDT - FOX NEWS CHANNEL.
