EPA overturns 16-year-old Texas permit program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday officially overturned a 16-year-old Texas air permitting program it says violates the Clean Air Act, leaving some of the country's largest refineries in a state of limbo.

The move comes after years of backdoor bickering, negotiations and public arguments between the EPA and Texas. The argument recently escalated from a battle over environmental issues into a heated political dispute over states' rights.

Gov. Rick Perry has been using it to drive home his contention that President Barack Obama's administration is overreaching, saying in a statement Wednesday that "Texas will continue to fight this federal takeover of a successful state program."

The EPA's decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations.

Oh no no no. I’m NOT voting for Bill White.

I think this will be Perry’s LAST time to get elected.

Bill White is probably related to Mark White. Remember him?

This race is going to be tight - skipping that race? Might as well vote for White as that’s the effect. Thanks to all the former NO residents that moved in, of course; they’ve all been brainwashed to think that they have to pull the lever next to (D) or their benefits will stop.

It seems like every year something happens and then they raise the price of gas at the pump. I am seriously looking into making alcohol gas for my car.

EPA overturns 16-year-old Texas permit program

I can understand the EPA wanting to regulate 16-year-olds. They can be terribly messy.

If the occupation government spent as much energy against al qaeda as there war against innocent Americans, terrorism would end in a day.

And Gov. Good Hair says the state will continue to fight. Here’s an idea. Why not seceed or at least threaten to? But I won’t hold my breath since he doesn’t even think Texas should pass the same law AZ passed. It’s sad to know that AZ is now a state with more “macho” than Texas. And that’s with a woman in charge.

Obama’s EPA reducing Texas economy to California standards of prosperity; next will come the tax hikes and when Bill White is elected he’ll push for a State Income Tax; raise the sales tax and the property taxes to confiscatory levels.

I’ve asked that same question.... I wish she could be our Gov instead of Pecos Perry.

“Bill White is probably related to Mark White. Remember him?”

Pretty certain they are not related. Mark was gov between Bill Clements two terms as I recall. Bill White is a slick salesman ala Slick Willie, appearing to be a Dem moderate or even conservative, but in reality he is a liberal snake.

I said it about a month ago when I first posted about this it is precedent setting.

I've been following it since, thanks for the ping. Now Texas needs to come up with a bargaining chip: e.g. gas and oil.
