Close the border, start rounding up the illegals and send them back or put them in prison and the vast majority of illegals will leave. Anyone who does this will probably get the majority vote.

I guess it is hard to just say, close borders and enforce existing law. Get rid of law supporting anchor babies and deny freebies.
McCain has said he does not support amnesty. It depends on what the meaning of amnesty is. Any legislation that legalizes the status of the illegal aliens and allows them to stay and work here is amnesty. Hence McCain and presumably Palin support amnesty. This Orwellian use of language to say that paying a fine, learning English, and getting to the back of the line on an earned path to citizenship is meant to fool and deceive. At least Reagan called it an amnesty.

Be easier to pass a law stating that the protection of law and government benefits are only applicable to US citizens and foreigners here under legal circumstances.
Cause then it’d be open hunting season on illegals, with no legal ramifications. I’d wager that all the illegals would flee ASAP if they knew that they had no recourse if someone wanted to shoot, kill, and then mount one on the wall.

This is a bit of black humor, but honestly... if illegals had no ability to get schooling for their children... and if anyone could do anything to them and they could not get protection, they *WOULD* quickly leave to somewhere where they could be protected, ie - their home country.
Did you watch the whole segment? Unfortunately she came through with a full McCain position. The only illegals she was in favor of deporting were those who failed to register for, well, amnesty. She went through the usual waffles, first trying to focus only on the border, then saying that illegals couldn’t just stay here ‘free’, and finally conceding that she was for allowing them to stay and work, etc.—as long as they registered for it.
I give BOR (regularly not my favorite at all) kudos for getting her to nail down her position—as disappointing as it was.

I'm not sure when Sarah made the ad for McCain that he is playing in Arizona - but I think her speaking out on Fox, shows that she is making a clear distance from McCain on his previous efforts to give amnesty.
She can't stop the ads from running - but she CAN make her viewpoints known.
O'Reilly is a useless tool who talks over all of his gurests & makes a great effort to pretend that he knows more than anyone else!!
Sarah needs to extricate herself from the wreckage of Juan McVain, a man who stands for his own aggrandizement and nothing else. That would help her think a little more clearly on issues like amnesty and open borders.
Absolutely correct. The same should go for rioters. If they gave up their rights to police protection during a riot, they would go home real fast once they realized it.

Many here dissemble by believing talk instead of action. Hearing people say what you want to hear at election time is common practice for politicians.
Actually delivering on the rhetoric is quite another thing.
I understand the need conservatives have for a hero...but supporting the likes of McCain is an action, it isn’t talk.
Palin says all I want to hear. The woman is smart because she picked up on that a long time ago. If she ends up the nominee, I will vote for her because Obama is the worst you can get.
That isn’t passion, it is just no other alternative.

I don’t think Reagan loved amnesty. I think he gave in on a couple of issues in order to get what he wanted done on others, and this was one of them.
The deal was, that if amnesty was extended to the illegals who were already settled in the country (far fewer than now), then that would be the end of it, and no more amnesties would be extended.
Of course, the Democrats were lying through their teeth about that, and Reagan should have known better to trust them on anything. Perhaps he did, but thought that defeating the Soviet Union or lowering taxes by 30% across the board were more important.
Anyway, as I think Sarah understands, the whole business was a clear warning to conservatives never to do it again.
Yes, I listened. I probably thought she did better than some of her followers may have thought.
But...she has whole heartedly come out for McCain, that gives me a good reason to doubt.

The only reason Reagan botched it was because the Democrats stabbed him in the back. As usual.
That was also the year they reformed the tax code taking away major deductions in exchange for lower tax rates. Democrats bent us over on that one too.
Look, there is a lot to like about Palin. One thing I won’t do is buy into excuses.
How is it a person can distance thmself from McCain yet makes ads touting him up?
I want a hero too, but I won’t turn my head from some reality.
I don’t buy into the excuses, I just know that if my support goes with a person as candidate, I will have to live with the truth that I cannot make them into what I dream they are.

I like SP but was disappointed in her remarks on BOR. The immigration problem could be solved in 90 days if anybody had the stones to do it. Put full page ads in all public/broadcast/cable/ethnic papers/magazines/tv stations/ethnic neighborhoods stating that as of pick-a-date (90/120 days) anyone that could not immediately prove their legal presence in America when requested to do so would be sent to a internment camp until they were transported out of the country. I say that there would be a mass migration south and the vast majority of illegals would self deport with their minor children who were born here because after all they don’t want to separate families. These people got here on their own dime and they can go back home on their own dime.
Having said that - I also like the idea of removing legal and constitutional protections as to education/services etc etc. The idea is to make it too uncomfortable for them to want to stay here.

No, Sarah Palin does not support amnesty of any kind. She wants to force people who are here illegally to register. If they don’t register she supports immediately expelling them. If they do register they become part of a work program that has a specific end date. At the end of that period they too must leave. I believe this is a brilliant strategy; it denies the left the opportunity to use sob stories about people being thrown out with out warning. It also allows the government to identify where these people live and where they work, making it easier to deport them when their work visa expires. That approach combined with a streamlining of the existing I9 process (enter everything into a database so you can cross reference SSN and names) so it can be used to identify people who are using fake identification documents and you have a solution to our immigration problem that is efficient, effective, and hard for the bleeding heart agitators on the left to attack.
Sarah Palin in my opinion is one of the few Republicans who has a handle on this issue and who has enough of a backbone to make it happen.
