Senate Democrats abandon comprehensive climate bill
Washington Post ^ | July 22, 2010 | Perry Bacon Jr.

Conceding they can't find enough votes for the measure, Senate Democrats on Thursday abandoned efforts to put together a comprehensive energy bill that would seek to limit greenhouse gas emissions, delivering a potentially fatal blow to a proposal Democrats have long touted and President Obama campaigned on.

Instead, Democrats will push for a more limited bill that would seek to increase liability costs that oil companies would pay following spills such as the one in the Gulf of Mexico and would create additional incentives for the development of natural gas vehicles and provide rebates to people who buy products that reduce home energy use. They did not release details of the proposal, but Senate Democrats said they expected to find GOP support and pass it in the next two weeks.

Democrats have not ruled out pushing for a more comprehensive bill when Congress returns from its August recess or in the session after the November elections, although it's not clear that any of the Democrats or Republicans who now oppose a more expansive measure would change their votes. Republicans have long argued the bill, by seeking to limit emissions, would lead to higher energy costs for American consumers, a view some conservative Democrats have also taken.

The decision to...

--snip--

Reid blamed the GOP for blocking the bill, noting that no Republicans in the Senate had said they would back the bill. Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), who had helped write the comprehensive measure with Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Kerry, announced in June that he would no longer back the measure, arguing Congress should pursue smaller, more targeted legislation...

--snip--

The decision by Democrats means that two major issues they had pledged to take on this year, energy reform and immigration, could remain unresolved before the midterm elections.

There are too many rat senators from coal and oil states. Reid didn't need a few RINOs. He probably needed more than a dozen, IMHO.

Obama, Gore, Soros and many others in the climate cabal stand to lose billions to trillions of dollars if they can't somehow get the buying and selling of air (carbon credits) on the books. May the Chicago Climate Exchange and all other such nonsense go bankrupt.

Yes but during the election obammy voiced his support for all these coal folks.
And ever since his election he’s tried to throw them in to his ever growing welfare line.

Obama found another way to kill domestic energy by the moratorium on gulf oil production. He probably knows the Gulf states would vote against Dems anyway. But what about the lost jobs? Maybe he is already scheming to find more ways to manipulate the unemployment numbers.

Yep. Here we go. Drudge had the article headlined last week about the dems lame duck strategy to get Obama's cap and tax voted through and green light the carbon trading trading floor in Chicago. Its called the CCX and Al Gore, Joyce Foundation, Goldman Sachs, and Franklin Raines are the lead investors. Follow the money.

It's another bait and switch (we got to pass it so we can find out what's in it) bill like ObamaCare.

They are going to pass a base bill that sets the wheels in motion with the stipulation that AFTER the Nov. elections, the still lame duck but dem majorities will then be able to ram through a massive increase in the bill's contents which will include Cap and Tax carbon trading. It's the dems last big powergrab/kick in the teeth to the american tax payer before many of them are out of office. And I'm sure many will be provided cushy government jobs/pork in exchange for those votes.

"Targeted" at whom, Senator?

How much longer before South Carolinians of character and refinement stand up, "target" this elitist son-of-a-bitch, and boot his wanna-be-a-democrat-when-I-grow-up pansy ass the hell OUT of office?

At the very least, strip him of his Man Card, and stop letting him call himself "Republican." This stoolie is Reid lite.

Rush put it good. The only reliable job counting statistic that can be counted is the number of jobs Obama destroys, not saved or created.
