Rifqa Bary refusing chemotherapy, court document says
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | August 3, 2010 | Meredith Heagney

Posted on 08/03/2010 10:55:02 AM PDT by inflorida

Christian convert Rifqa Bary is refusing chemotherapy for cancer because she believes that she was cured at a faith-healing event, according to a motion in Franklin County Juvenile Court.

Rifqa was to undergo a year of chemotherapy after her cancer was surgically removed, the document filed by her parents states.

But Rifqa, who is in foster care, was taken to a faith-healing event in Youngstown a couple of weeks ago by Franklin County Children Services, without her parents' consent, according to the document.

A motion to force treatment is to be considered today in Juvenile Court.

Rifqa's attorneys, meanwhile, are asking the court to make "special findings" so that she can obtain an immigration status that will allow her to stay in the country and obtain medical care. Rifqa, a native of Sri Lanka, does not have legal status in the United States, her attorneys have said in court.

An attorney for her parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary, indicated in April that the family also was pursuing immigration documentation. All parties are under a gag order and cannot comment on any aspects of the case.

Rifqa ran away from home in July 2009, saying her Muslim father would kill her for converting to Christianity. She lived with evangelical pastors in Florida before returning to Ohio to live in a foster home.

That case is to conclude next Tuesday, when Rifqa will turn 18, making her an adult.

Meanwhile, tests have determined that Rifqa has a "rare form of cancer," according to her attorneys' court filings. Her supporters have said she has uterine cancer.

It's unclear whether she is cancer-free at the moment. The Barys' attorney, Omar Tarazi, said in a motion that Rifqa will need a hysterectomy if the cancer returns.

I thought she was only a few months from turning 18 last year when all that was going on.

She turns 18 next Tuesday, and they are still trying to “force” her to do something?

That girl will never have any peace, poor child.

Rifqa:
You are stupid.

God gave us the gifts of science, Doctors, mitigating therapies, outright cures and medicine.

You were not healed by some Bennie Hinn, Bozo, wannabe.

I implore you to seek medical treatment and save your life.

God loves you.

I’m with Vendome.

Unless God told you specifically that you were cured, I’d be getting the medical treatments.

And don’t confuse some emotionally hyped preacher’s words for a direct message from God.

And don’t confuse what you want to hear for one either.

Lots of adults CHOOSE not to have chemo and to go another route. She should not have this choice, come Tuesday? What kind of government do you want? One with absolute authority over every bit of your life?

Perhaps she’s worried about being given an overdose by some Muslim doctor or orderly.

She’s a world-famous apostate after all.

God gave us the gifts of science, Doctors, mitigating therapies, outright cures and medicine.

Such a shame - under threat of death from two religions. Islam for being "too western" and faux Christianity by "faith healing."

You are in error because you do not know the scriptures.

While God did give the gifts of knowledge and science they are not the ONLY gifts he gave. By Jesus stripes you were healed reads the scripture and please note the past tense. I have personally seen individuals bed ridden with supposedly incurable cancer call for prayer and laying on of hands by the church elders walk out of the hospital that same week cancer free.

While I agree it would be wise to monitor her health, do not doubt God’s ability to heal.

Or maybe she is healed and they should do more tests? The tests will show the truth one way or the other. God heals through doctors, but He can also heal Himself. Calling her stupid is just ignorant. One set of parents trying to force her to do what they want and the nanny state trying to force her to do what they want.

I am never in error of the scriptures.

I am in fear for her life and I have yet to see a genuine case of cancer being miraculously healed.

Even if it there are, they are infinitesimal odds and she should seek medical care.

Oh, and you took that quote out of context. That’s terrific.

Jesus’ stripes refers to his dying for our sins and we are healed from sin through his stripes.

Get the to a Concordance and be learned.

Pray for this little girl that she will seek medical help.

What will you think of God if the miracle does not come?

What will you think if she dies, knowing she had a fighting chance, through modern medical care.

God does not ordain Shaman faith healing.

My father was a doctor. He died from lung cancer in '86. Before that his cousin, who was his friend since childhood, died of cancer. Seeing what happened to his cousin, and as a doctor, he said he would never go through chemo-therapy and he didn't. He had surgery and radiation therapy and that was grueling enough.

He almost made it five years to the point where it would be unlikely to reoccur. It did though and he went through more radiation. Chemo-therapy would not have made a difference to the final outcome but it would have caused him tremendous suffering.

Under 0bamaCare will even adults have a choice about what they can and can't do?

I cannot believe you both would sanction her death.

I would think as Christians you would implore her to seek medical care.

The odds of a miracle are far to incalculable, while Medical Science can indeed provide the appropriate care for her condition.

The article says she may need a hysterectomy should test prove conclusively she has cancer.

The point will be moot next Tuesday as she will be 18 and make any decision she wants.

Wow. You are the only who agrees with me.

I got two others on this thread who can’t read a Bible in context.

I have said my prayer for her in hopes of a miracle.

I SAID that medical tests can prove whether she’s been healed or not. What part of that did you miss?

The situation here is that Rifqa is under age.

That point becomes moot next Tuesday as she will be 18 and can make her own decisions.

No Shaman can force her to do anything to bolster his standing among his flock and no government can force her into medical care.

Tough situation.

Sorry for your father. I have several friends who have died from cancer and many who are living with it.

There are no good choices for therapies and everyone of them found the cure worse than the pain.
