America Is at Risk of Boiling Over
WSJ ^ | 8/6/10 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 08/05/2010 9:19:50 PM PDT by Kartographer

But do our political leaders have any sense of what people are feeling deep down? They don't act as if they do. I think their detachment from how normal people think is more dangerous and disturbing than it has been in the past. I started noticing in the 1980s, the growing gulf between the country's thought leaders, as they're called—the political and media class, the universities—and those living what for lack of a better word we'll call normal lives on the ground in America. The two groups were agitated by different things, concerned about different things, had different focuses, different world views.

Promising title and start, but she still doesn’t get it.

That was my take too. She dwells on the material. The problem is not only people may not have as much stuff next year as this or their kids may not be better off than they are.

Please excuse a friendly correction. :-) That's 'navel' as in tummy-buton. Naval refers to a proud branch of our military.

It’s simple: If/when half of them lose their jobs, the other half who don’t will refuse to go along so they don’t lose theirs the next time around. Remember, almost all politicians on the left (including RINOs) are narcissists. That means they care about themselves FIRST, even over Party.

PS Obama’s narcissism is a whole different thing than the garden variety version I’m talking about here.

Wow, BobP, didn’t expect my little post to light off that type of exposition! BTW, I do NOT disagree with a single thing you said!

You have a point there. They're not actually intelligent but they do exhibit a sort of animal cunning for self-preservation.

They definitely need adult supervision, though.

I started noticing in the 1980s, the growing gulf between the country's thought leaders, as they're called—the political and media class, the universities—and those living what for lack of a better word we'll call normal lives on the ground in America. The two groups were agitated by different things, concerned about different things, had different focuses, different world views.

And yet despite this self-proclaimed epiphany Peggy still found it necessary to do her best to foist the current administration on us. The reason for this is very simple - Peggy is a member in good standing of these - good God, I can barely type it, even in irony - "thought leaders". Sold her soul and now she wants it back. Sorry, Peggy, that isn't up to us - talk to the guy you sold it to.

Let us cut to cases - this ignorant, arrogant, insufferable wretch Peggy helped place in the people's house was predicted to be inadequate to the task, has proven himself inadequate to the task, and all we have left is a grand illusion that passes for reality in Liberal-land, an inhabitant in good standing is one Peggy Noonan. That illusion is that if only we close our eyes and pretend hard enough some Tinker-Belle magic is going to turn crap into gold because, oh, because we want it so very much.

Well, we don't. We want our country back, and the shape-changers and illusion-makers are, for once, number one on the tumbrel list. Can you feel it, Peggy? We're not coming for them, dear, we're coming for you.

The Panther power is way overblown. They fear us, for a change. We are deadly serious, we are going to lounge around, peacefully, waiting for November, but people are ready to rumble. The demographics have us older, and madder, and braver, willing to take liberty right to the center of power. I too think they all know it.

Peggy is right that there is a disconnect however I don’t believe she noticed it because she was also a part of it.
Peggy is a like a sleepwalking journalist. She grasps something intuitively and gets it “right” and then she wanders away again. Those in power had better wake up we are getting tired. Tired of having our will being steamrolled by politicians who “make up the rules as we go along”, tired of having our hard work disregarded, tired of being blamed for the useless pieces of human waste that feel entitled to what WE WORK FOR. The leadership isn’t leadership, its a shameful clown act and if they continue on as if nothing has changed as if we will continue to take this forever they will find themselves confronted by a righteous rage that will consume them all.

I hear you. We have an established code of flag etiquette today. If you wish not to observe it, that's your choice.

My personal belief is the seeds of the second American revolution started during the LBJ era. They have been fermenting for some time now. Clinton pushed and Obama is shoving. In essence, he fired the one too many shots that no longer limit polite politcal retraint.

I do not suppose a violent war but rather one in the courts over states rights as evidenced by Arizona immigration, states challenges to Obama Care and so forth.

What evolves will be not a return to the old America we so miss but one of a few strong political geographies we can live or not live with.

“Promising title and start, but she still doesn’t get it.”

You’re so right What an academic elitist. I can hear her tone (as I read the article) - that of a curious scientist/professor/analyst, “hmmmmm...”. Love her throwing in the bit about how many “aging boomers” (or yuppies, already forgot which) are leaving this country. She neither understands, nor is interested in, all the millions of us who choose to STAY and fight to restore it. Her whole article is full of hopelessness and doom, a not-so-subtle indictment of the U.S.

Has she stopped her “slobbering over Obama”?

What do you think?

He said he used to be fairly complacent about voting, but that he was sick of this ****

Fantastic! I've been hearing that same statement often over the past 18 or so months, from people of all races/nationalities. Gives me hope...

If only this were all true... BUT how can we explain these several primaries where the RINO candidates win over the conservatives. I think these primary results do not bode well for November.

A problem she mentions only in passing: the decadence of the popular culture. An appalling decline in taste, deportment, public morals. Idiot television shows, idiot entertainment celebrities, idiot media. A president who polluted the Oval Office with sex with an employee young enough to be his daughter, a Congress who let him stay in office, a major network exec (CBS) who apologizes for not having enough shows glorifying homosexual behavior. Judges who routinely make up the law rather than interpret it, who put their own cultural, policy or sexual preferences—the judge who ruled on prop 8 was himself a sexual deviant—ahead of the democratically expressed will of the American people. Our major cultural and educational institutions are in the hands of decadent nihilists who hate our country, its history, and traditions. They have been polluting the minds of our young for fifty years now. God help us.

Peggy Noonan, you ignorant slut.

You, and your treasonous, snotty pro-Obama cohorts are greatly responsible for this commie fiasco.

Boiling over? It’s about to go dry, the mess is all over the stove, and shortly the kitchen will be on fire.

Easy. You’re being bamboozled by the SRM. They pimp every RINO win, spin every conservative win as “too far right to win the general election,” and ignore the sea change that’s going on.

But that is NOT an excuse for complacency. It’s a reason to keep motivated and keep the pressure on!
