American Teachers Should Revolt
One News Now ^ | August 9, 2010 | Peter Heck

A little over a year ago, I wrote a column suggesting that due to the blatant hostility the National Education Association was expressing towards Christians, it was time for Christian teachers to withdraw their membership from the NEA. As it turns out, the focus of my call to abandon this radically left lobby group was a bit too narrow. As evidenced by its own website, the NEA is not merely anti-Christian, they are anti-American as well.

How else can you explain the plan that appeared on the NEA's "Diversity Calendar" instructing teachers to make October 1st a special recognition of the Communist revolution in China? The NEA recommended teachers celebrate how the world's most notorious butcher, Chairman Mao Zedong, proclaimed the "Chinese people have stood up," as he established the regime that would slaughter more innocent human beings than any other in world history. [Editor's note: The NEA has since removed the October 1 event from their website, following a rapid spread of the news about it.]

As incredible as it may seem, such a proposal is completely consistent with other actions of the NEA. On their page highlighting recommended reading for teachers, the group touts the work of self-proclaimed Satanist (and Obama motivator) Saul Alinsky. In calling Alinsky, "an inspiration to anyone contemplating action in their community," the NEA encourages those charged with educating our children to immerse themselves in the tactics of progressive community organizing. They heartily endorse Alinsky's 1971 book, Rules for Radicals – a socialist how-to guide for gaining power and redistributing wealth.

NEA logo’s commentator Brannon Howse explains, "The NEA is a group of radicals who are opposed to parental authority, opposed to accountability, and they're not for traditional education . . . They are for a progressive, liberal, anti-American world view." . . .

Thousands of dollars in funding is lost each time a child withdraws and is home-schooled. Home-schooling is a powerful response to the negligence and anti-Americanism of the NEA. Many churches are now helping their members get the info needed to begin homeschooling.

Many people join the union because they think they will be protected from lawsuits and for the liability insurance the union provides.

My sons were able to get the same insurance through their regular insurance man for a few bucks a year. They did not join the union.

You are absolutely right. That’s the best way to get the needed coverage.

In some states, California for example, you have no choice but to join the union. After two years of being a union member and on some occasions letting my political beliefs be known to other members of the faculty I find that I was not given tenure and am now an ex-teacher.

Keeping my mouth shut was not always my strong point, but the union membership has expired with my job.

LOL... In the 4th grade I was introduced to one of those boards.

There were holes drilled in it so that air didn’t slow it down. 3 swats lasted an eternity. After that, I never stole chalk to write dirty words all over the roadway ever, ever again. ;>)

Four years later, in the 8th grade, I did drop water filled balloons on a cluster of nuns, but I never got caught. They thought they recognized my laughter, but they couldn’t prove it was me. LOL

My poor parents, rest their souls.

I would encourage any parent to homeschool if possible!

My sister homeschooled her boys and they all did much better than most public school kids.

I pulled my son out during the fifth grade. I home schooled him and graduated him last year. He’s doing really fine in college, and seems more mature and well grounded than many of his “public schooled” friends.

His father and I think it was a wise decision and there are no regrets!

Since our Constitution and our early laws were all based on Biblical principles, by it’s own anti=Christian position, the NEA is anti-American! I think teachers have no choice but to pay dues to the NEA.

The local unions can opt out of the NEA and maintain self-governance. Or if teachers are not required to join the union, they can pick up their liability insurance through their homeowners’ policy. I agree: the NEA is definitely un-American. They should be ashamed, but they aren’t.
