She was in a remote area...I dont know if your familiar with Malibu but much of it is pretty rural.

I lived there (off Latigo Canyon) for almost a year.

I am not sure what the outcome would normally be for not being able to pay a restaurant bill. I suppose it would be like shop lifting. The police maybe should have just given here a citation, or maybe a “fix-it ticket”. She goes back the next day, pays the bill and the court date is forgotten.

On the other hand, if you go to you-tube, you can see lots of black women losing it in public places and ripping everyone in sight. Are they bi-polar, too? Maybe that is why the cops had to take her in.

From there, it sounds like they blew it though.

Never knew Malibu was so dangerous, pretty rare a black girl getting murdered in a white neighborhood.

How do you know she was murdered?

The official investigative report is at odds with some of the claims being made. It indicates that she was offered the opportunity to remain at the station until she could get a ride, but she declined.

It’s also worthwhile doing a bit of research on the history of the attorney who’s making most of the inflamatory claims. LA residents will recognize the name.

Yeah I’m well aware of that scumbag lawyer. He loves cases like this because it gives him a chance to put his ugly mug on television

One possible problem with writing a citation comes when the individual you’re citing doesn’t have adequate identification. A citation is a release from arrest upon one’s promise to apppear in court. If you can’t determine they live where they say they live, it’s unlikely they’ll show up in court. The comments about doing a livescan would indicate there was some kind of identification issue involved.

Malibu, inland from the coast, is hilly and sparsely inhabited. If you leave the road, you are on your own.

Mitrice was unable to pay for her dinner at a posh Malibu restaurant. They would not accept her credit card and called the sheriff's department, who booked her and then released her during the night into literal wilderness.

The new American Police State is beginning to take on a scary look, almost like something out of a horror flick. If you try to avoid the uniformed Freddy Kruegers, you're charged with "felonies". They can steal anything you've got that isn't nailed down ("seizure").

The dog shootings. The SWAT raids on the wrong houses.

Then you see what happened to this Mitrice, and to Erik Scott at the Vegas area Summerlin Costco.

Just freaking bizarre.

I agree with both of you, that her parents (who are divorced), are not off the hook here. They need to answer some questions too. Her mother was informed that Mitrice had been arrested yet did not offer to come pick her up. I believe they were unable to immediately contact her father.

You’re right. They could have given her a citation at the restaurant and let her go. The investigation should show what made them decide to arrest and book her.

Yeah her Mom was on TV here last night saying that if she had been told that Mitrice would be released then she would have driven the long commute to get there(She lives in Inglewood) but they kept on telling her that she would be released in the morning. Its all on tape, she also said how Mitrice has been hanging around a bad crowd and thinks some jail might teach her a lesson. Both sides screwed up here, a real shame

So many people let Mitrice down. I think that’s why I became so sympathetic to her when I first heard of her disappearance. I still cannot believe such a sad chain of events. Also, Leo Terrell is unbearably obnoxious but he did bring attention to her plight. Unfortunately, he and the family are going to play up the race angle. Pile on the mistakes, people, way to go.....

I agree..the parents have to assume some responsibility here as well. They knew she was mentally ill and they let her walk around knowing that she was unstable.

Family have no control over an adult child (or adult anyone else) who is mentally ill. No one can stop them, an this is the law.

Yeah I already heard the race card being used yesterday. One of the family friends was saying that if she were a white girl she would never have been let out in the middle of the night and she thinks one of the police officers killed her. Please, this isn’t about race, this is about straight up stupidity, on both sides, on the side of the police who messed up and on the side of Mitrice’s family who saw she had issues and did nothing to help her. Leo Terrell is a media whore looking for his fifteen minutes since the last time he got it was in the OJ trial

Why didn’t her mother go pick her up that night instead of leaving her in jail until the next morning. After all her mother called them and said that she would wait until the next morning to get her.

The restaurant tried to accept her credit card but it was declined.

She told other diners that she was sent there as an angel to avenge Michael Jackson’s death.

“Her father, Michael Richardson, said his daughter suffered from bipolar disorder and was released far from home with no money, no purse, no cell phone and no car. Her vehicle had been impounded with the items inside.”

There was nothing in her car but her driver’s license.

And if she was bipolar why did her mother and father leave her in jail overnight instead of going to pick her up?

Her body was located near a pot growing “ farm” that was ready to be harvested.

Someone called police at 6 am the next morning to report a black female sprawled out on the front porch. Once they arrived she was gone.

Her family had a chance to pick her up from jail that night but decided to leave their bipolar daughter in jail.

By the way, they filed a lawsuit against the police dept even before they started looking for their daughter, Her mother has been on and off Nancy Grace for over a year (what a bitch). Everyone but her was supposed to be looking for her daughter.

The dept was investigated by an outside agency and found they followed the letter of the law.

Exactly.

There is a lot more to this story the parents & media had rather not disclose. It just sounds better to blame the cops...again. Not to mention the lawsuit filed against the police!

After having watched her mother’s attitude that “WE” should be looking for her daughter it turned my stomach! I would have avoided any dealings with that woman period.

Maybe her daughter was trying to run away from HER!

Mitrice Richardson was a 24-year-old woman who was arrested on September 17, 2009, in Malibu, California, after she was reportedly intoxicated and unable to pay her $89 bill at a local restaurant.

Her car was impounded after officers found marijuana.

She was released from the Agoura Hills Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department just a few hours later and vanished.

Family members were critical of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department for releasing Richardson in the middle of the night. They also questioned whether Richardson “hould have been held for a mental health evaluation after she acted bizarrely at the restaurant.”

Richardson’s remains were reportedly discovered in Malibu Canyon on August 9, 2010. Authorities confirmed on August 12, 2010, that the remains had been positively identified as Richardson’s.

According to reports, park rangers looking for marijuana plants discovered the skeletal remains in a ravine.
