How Lisa Murkowski (might have) lost
Washington Post ^ | 25 August 2010 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 08/25/2010 9:50:48 AM PDT by tgdunbar

. . . She was urged by senior leadership at the National Republican Senatorial Committee to go negative on Miller in a meeting two months ago but rejected that advice, insisting that attack ads were not how politics were conducted in Alaska, according to a source familiar with the gathering.

By refusing to define Miller early on in the race, Murkowski gave away her biggest advantage: money. (On Aug. 4, Murkowski reported $1.86 million in her campaign warchest; Miller had just $84,000 in the bank at that time.)

As the votes were being counted, Miller gave full credit for his lead to Palin, the half-term governor of Alaska whose endorsement put him on the national political map. "I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he told the Anchorage Daily News. And, Murkowski, put the blame for her potential loss at the feet of the former governor, saying: "I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest." . . .

Just do what I do:

a.) Ignore those intelligent enough to leave it at that; AND/OR --

b.) ... point and laugh at all the rest. ;)

Thanks for knocking down another doomsayer, Eska. You have been right about this race all along.

Winning this hotly contested primary was a challenge. I had a lot of support within my district and from around the country. Like Joe Miller in Alaska, the support Sarah Palin’s endorsement brought to my campaign was instrumental.

The Arizona First Congressional District is one of Palin’s targeted 20 to re-take America from the far left. I will need help from across the country to defeat an entrenched liberal. Thank you again for your continuing support.

“JD got almost twice as many votes as the democrat who will now go up against McCain in November.”

Given there was no real race on that side of the isle, to try to equate that that means anything is wishful thinking and dillusion.

The republican party certainly has momentum, and there is no doubt a conservative movement rising against moderate republicans as well.. and yet, in spite of this, JD got trounced. He couldn’t win the republican vote in a year where conservative ideals are on a massive rise.

The fact that he couldn’t take out McCain in my mind shows that hes not ready for prime time.. you may think otherwise, and who knows in 6 years if he’s still floating around who knows.. but with McCain being a moderate republican and a very well known one in his own state, and still got absolutely trounced by him, shows me that JD wasn’t the candidate for the job.

Alaskan to Alaskan apology. I'm just worn out on all the predictions that I never saw in the cards and the once again the predictions turned out wrong.

Most the Indians are registered Dems, can't vote in Repub primary. Most rural Whites went for Joe I do believe.

Glad to see the Miller win, life is great in Ak.

Interesting the the NRSC said to go negative. Makes me wonder if they didn’t want her to loose and were trying to set her up. Miller said he’d lean towards the DeMint group in the Senate. Hmmmmm. Popcorn time!

There is ablsolutely no way she could have gone negative. What was she going to say? He has 8 kids! See the carbon footprint he’s reponsible for? That would have gone real well, yeah.

note the remark, made in passing, about the senior leadership at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

You believe that cock and bull?

If you are in Alaska have you noticed how some of the radio stations are upset that its so close? There are a couple I listen too and they have their liberal minded it appears news commentators and they were literally choking on the news and having to say that Miller might have it, I’m not kidding.

I live just north of Wasilla and I am a concrete mixer driver so when I’m out making deliveries all day in the valley I meet people and I listen to the radio.

Everyone in the Valley is for Miller no doubt, there is a lot of military in Alaska, especially retired veterans.

These absentees will probably take Miller I’m just aiming long here at least 2300-2600 votes above Lisa Murkowski.

If it was a pool I would say 2436 for the grand prize.

They say it may take a week or two to count them, go figure.

Yes, sir!! That’s what I’ve been thinking all day!

Miller is West Point, a Bronze Star veteran. The military vote is his.

Blessings!

Posted this on another (wrong thread) but will repost here.

Do you remember the comments made that First Dude was working for Miller.
My guess he was visiting relatives helping them fill out absentee ballots

Dad made the point the the Palin’s oldest child is a member of the ANG. Someone pointed out last night that they were out on maneuver and would need to vote absentee. That’s two group for Miller.

Noticed today he was growing a beard, earlier pictures had him clean shaven. How does tht figure in?...More rugged?

ANd then there is the eight children. FOX said this evening there was a plank being voted on by the people of Alaska regarding notification of parents about an abortion. That too will bring the more conservative/Miller voters to fill our an absentee ballot.....

Ha! It is better to have a very successful half term than to have a poor or mediocre full term.

Maybe I’m just remembering wrong, but thought when I’d looked him up earlier he was clean shaven. The beard says I’m rough and ready!
