How Lisa Murkowski (might have) lost
Washington Post ^ | 25 August 2010 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 08/25/2010 9:50:48 AM PDT by tgdunbar

. . . She was urged by senior leadership at the National Republican Senatorial Committee to go negative on Miller in a meeting two months ago but rejected that advice, insisting that attack ads were not how politics were conducted in Alaska, according to a source familiar with the gathering.

By refusing to define Miller early on in the race, Murkowski gave away her biggest advantage: money. (On Aug. 4, Murkowski reported $1.86 million in her campaign warchest; Miller had just $84,000 in the bank at that time.)

As the votes were being counted, Miller gave full credit for his lead to Palin, the half-term governor of Alaska whose endorsement put him on the national political map. "I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he told the Anchorage Daily News. And, Murkowski, put the blame for her potential loss at the feet of the former governor, saying: "I think she's out for her own self-interest. I don't think she's out for Alaska's interest." . . .

Really, shouldn’t Palin be identified as “former governor and former Vice-Presidential candidate?”

The media, and the leaders of the status quo, are so transparent these days.

Boy according to that story last week Palin sure is on a losing streak with her picks!*eyeroll* Guess the electorate didn’t get the DNC/MSM message clearly?

the most interesting part of the article, for me, was the source of the advice to go negative:

senior leadership at the National Republican Senatorial Committee

That's why I said MOSTLY the same races. There were a couple of differences -- Palin endorsing McCain over Hayworth while Huck stays on the sidelines, Huckabee endorsing McColluum while Palin stayed on the sidelines -- but on the decisive tea party stuff -- Miller over Murkowski and Rubio over Crist (before Crist became a RAT), both Huck and Sarah were on the same page and backing the insurgent conservative in those races before it was popular.

I don't see why it would be "embarrassing" for Huck when most of the candidates he endorsed won their primaries yesterday.

This report on the Senate REPUBLICAN Leadership should be a GIANT HEADLINE ON FR.

The post I responded to the first place about how “pro-Shucksabee hit hardest”. Huckabee’s hit hardest when most of the candidates he endorses win their primaries? Does that make logical sense?

The last remaining votes are village votes and they always go liberal.

Now your sounding just like all the other media, newspaper, and political pundit people who don't know their butt from a hole in the ground. They all predicted Lisa's sweep. I've been telling everybody on FR that Alaskans are voting for Miller for the last month. I only found one person in our rural community & Indian village who were voting for Lisa; over a dozen for Miller. I find it all quite humorous.

Palin beat Lisa's dad 59% to 19% same race and everybody predicted Murkowski win. Ak has elected 2 AIP governors over repubs that weren't conservative enough when Repubs owned the state.

Anybody here in Ak outside Anch could see the Miller win coming; yet conservatives on FR act as though they are surprised.

I'm glad I sent in 4 absentee ballots for my family and also witnessed & sent 2 absentee ballots for Indians who changed to Republican in order to vote for Miller.

I'm not worried about the Village votes at all, no joke.

The post I responded to the first place

... does not feature the word "embarrassing" anywhere within it. Fail.

Yep, that’s precisely what you’ve been saying all along and you’ve been proven right. I put my trust in you and in Eye of Unk and I had a very enjoyable night watching the returns!

In fact, I am still up and awake! Listening to Rush.

oh, I was at another thread this am, where the ever vigilant were on duty ;) You know, those who will never forgive SP for endorsing McCain. The PERFECT conservatives vs. the rest of us Fallen Conservatives.

Alright, fine. We'll go with your original words "hit hardest". So let's review this logic going by the order of events in this election cycle:

1) Huckabee endorses Joe Miller over Lisa Murkowski, long before it's popular.

2) Huckabee's favored candidate Joe Miller WINS on election night and DEFEATS Murkowski.

3) Huckabee's supporters hit hardest.

Sure, that makes logical sense. Were McCain supporters also "hit hard" by his VICTORY yesterday? Must be devastating, knowing they won the election.

Perhaps if you said "Fredheads continuing to insist Fred backs conservatives hit hardest" it would have made sense. Certainly Fred endorsed far more RINOs than Palin or Huckabee.

Oh, I thought Kent used the word “trolls” and didn’t mean the endorsers.

I am almost completely lost now...LOL.
So, never mind.

Huck is a boob, IMO. His endorsements are all but meaningless. He tried to score endorsement wins in the early primary states of Iowa and South Carolina, but Sarah endorsed those winners. LOL.

Worse yet, on Fox ‘n Friends this morning, he tried to take credit for Joe Miller, but then Joe gave the credit to Sarah and did NOT mention the Huckster. OOOPS!

Alright, fine. We'll go with your original words "hit hardest".

How eye-poppingly gracious of you, conceding not to continue openly misquoting me, after being called on it. I feel ever so grateful. Truly.

"Various FRee Republic pro-Mittens/pro-Shucksabee trolls hardest hit."

Onyx -- reading, as always, for comprehension -- has already made note of this... but: I specifically referenced trolls, and not those making political endorsements. This can readily be observed by my usage of the word "trolls," as the obvious subject in said sentence.

Good grief.
