DEMOCRATS PLAN POLITICAL TRIAGE TO RETAIN HOUSE

As Democrats brace for a November wave that threatens their control of the House, party leaders are preparing a brutal triage of their own members in hopes of saving enough seats to keep a slim grip on the majority.

In the next two weeks, Democratic leaders will review new polls and other data that show whether vulnerable incumbents have a path to victory. If not, the party is poised to redirect money to concentrate on trying to protect up to two dozen lawmakers who appear to be in the strongest position to fend off their challengers.

"We are going to have to win these races one by one," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, conceding that the party would ultimately cut loose members who had not gained ground.

With the midterm campaign entering its final two months, Democrats acknowledged that several races could quickly move out of their reach, including re-election bids by Reps. Betsy Markey of Colorado, Tom Perriello of Virginia, Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio and Frank Kratovil Jr. of Maryland, whose districts were among the 55 Democrats won from Republicans in the last two election cycles.

Reps. John M. Spratt Jr. of South Carolina, chairman of the Budget Committee, and Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota, who is seeking a 10th term, are among senior Democrats who have appeared to gain little ground in the summer months in the toxic political environment. A sputtering

In Texas, Rep. Chet Edwards, using the word "lie" three times, accuses his rival in an advertisement of claiming that he voted in a recent election when polling records said he did not.

Here's hoping ol' Chet ends up on the "must defend" list. Because he is going to get squashed like a bug in TX-17.

“Democratic leaders will review new polls “

Lie to pollsters. Figure out the best lie, and when that dinnertime call comes, lie to them.

At the very least they will come to trust polls less, at the best, they will act on the data you give them.

Saul Alinsky was a leftist but he wrote an excellent set of Rules.

I can see November 2nd from here and it smells like victory.

That’s why we need the RNC and friendly sponsors to do NATIONAL network ads that will be seen in all districts. There are too many races that are winnable to try to decide on 50 seats, 70 seats, or 100 seats.

Voters have a national choice in 2010. They can choose a federal government managed by the ruling class regulating every aspect of our lives, spending our grandchildren’s money and running more and more of our businesses or they can vote “NO”. We are the party of “NO” and that should be our message to all voters in all of the states.

I don’t see Heath Shuler mentioned here. I live in his district and live for the day he’s gone...

Before they can properly submit him triage, they must first find Shuler's brain...

Translation: “Dems throw vulnerable members under the bus — to save a few of their ‘elite’. “

Democrats “cut loose” might go ahead and cooperate during the lame duck session if they have good reason to expect they will be rewarded new positions controlled by the party/administration or by its core supporters/supporting organizations after their term is over.

Is he that vulnerable? The last poll I saw had Miller within a few points of him. Shuler also managed to draw only 65% of the voters in his own primary against a complete unknown (Dylan reference there) because his left wing base is completely pissed at him for his moderate stance. Miller has a shot but only if it’s a tidal wave election for Republicans. I have contributed to Miller’s campaign in hopes he will send Shuler packing. Tell your parents to step up to the plate! Help Miller kick Shuler to the curb!

Looks like the RATS are doing the only thing they can: use the strongest incumbents to buck up the midlins and throw the weaklings under the bus.

Must be a bitch to be a weakling.

The race for North Carolina’s 11th district Congressional seat is a dead heat (45 percent–44 percent) between Democratic incumbent Heath Shuler and Republican candidate Jeff Miller as the unaffiliated vote looks to become the deciding factor according to a new SurveyUSA poll released by the Civitas Institute.

Maybe the Dems will publish their list of who they think is worthy of the money . . we could have some fun with that.

This is an amazing admission. Democrats will wrote off some of their most vulnerable members to assist those whose races seem salvagable.
