Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich calls Obama a Con Man
CBS News ^ | Sept. 12, 2010 | Dan Farber

Posted on 09/12/2010 1:38:42 PM PDT by SmartInsight

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who may have presidential aspirations, is apparently really frustrated with the president. The respected politician has taken criticism to a new level of insult, describing Mr. Obama as a "con" man who is "authentically dishonest."

Gingrich said, "This is a person who is fundamentally out of touch with how the world works, who happened to have played a wonderful con, as a result of which he is now president."

-Have you forgotten about “Joe the Plumber”?

Obama ran into Joe the Plumber on the street in an unscripted moment and then was spinning the result, while his people tried to destroy the man in any way possible.

What Gingrich says is true but it also reminds me of why he is such a bad candidate. Long on bombast and throwing rhetorical grenades, short on effectiveness.

Gingrich will back down from this statement by Tuesday.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

At least con men work for a living. The vacation president doesn’t even bother.

Hitler and those types came right out and told you what they were going to do but Obama never has.

Actually he told us exactly what he planned to do.

What he won't tell us is who the hell he is.

NO unelected “czars” anywhere, in any administration. They are unlawful shadow governments. Only duly approved Cabinet secretaries. That’s it. Restore law and order to our government.

Duh, Newt’s late. He’s jockeying for a Presidential election in my opinion. Newt has lost my vote when he postured against Rush L back when Rush was the only one with the nerve to say Obama should fail. Newt, like the rest of the RNC elites, wanted to play nice. I say screw ‘em all. Let’s start over with a new batch of true conservatives. Bye Bye Orin Hatch. Bye Bye Newt.

Con man and authentically dishonest. It is great to finally know someone in a position of political power come right out and say it. It has been begging to be said and it’s about time. I love that Newt used those terms and needs to keep it up because this scumbag leaves no doubt.

“”How Obama Thinks by Dinesh D’Souza in Forbes.””

Just read it. It was excellent but some of the comments were pretty nasty. I have to learn to stop reading those. They are written by the people who put that bozo in power and we’re supposed to believe they can understand what they are reading???????

What would you dare bet that Gingrich knows that O was born in Kenya or at least wasn’t eligible to be elected?

Good for Newt! It has become a popular sport for 100% pure armchair Conservatives to anonymously trash Newt Gingrich whenever he does something that we would applaud from anyone else. That doesn't take much courage, but it does exhibit a lot of nerve. Newt is not perfect, but he is one of us, and one of our most capable and effective leaders.

In very large part, today's GOP -- the natural home of Conservatives and our only hope for governing -- stands upon the shoulders of a small handful of men. Newt Gingrich is one of the intellectual giants that forged the first Conservative coalition in the House since the socialist tide swept in with Franklin Roosevelt. It was Newt that taught young Conservatives to stand alone -- just as he did for years in the Democrat South. And it was Newt that taught the GOP to run boldly and proudly on specific Conservative principles -- and to win. Our first attempt at running Congress eventually failed, but we now know how we fell short, and how to get our next opportunity right. Newt Gingrich is not a RINO by any stretch, and it is a shameful slander to call him that.

Those who have the guts to enter the arena deserve better from their supporters than to have to guard their rear from constant sniping. Of course we should hold them to account when they err badly, and we should purge those who truly abandon Conservative principles. But when it comes to those who are simply "less than pure" we should remember that the perfect politician is no rarer than the perfect supporter. If one shortcoming results in a lifetime ban from the fold with no possibility of redemption, then we will never find any suitable leaders and we will always self destruct before our real enemies ever fire a shot.

Good for Newt for calling a spade a spade! The Left recognizes that Newt is doing our bidding, and they hate him for it. Too bad that some on the Right hate him even more because he didn't do it ________ (sooner, louder, stronger, more angrily, in Latin, etc.).

Great post. I continue to be baffled by the disrespect Newt gets by many here. As you say, he’s flawed and I was very disappointed by his adoption of Globalwarmingism.

But I continue to believe those who trash him are historically ignorant. He almost single-handedly led the GOP out of 40 years of wilderness under the leadership of the likes of Bob Michel (uggh). And the thanks he gets is lots of short memories and unrealistic standards by people who’ve not comparatively nothing for the conservative movement.

And that his conservative credentials are questioned by blind Sarah Palin devotees is doubly galling. Again (I must always repeat this), I LIKE Palin.

But let’s see....leading the GOP to a majority in the House after 4 decades in the minority....or serving 2 1/2 years as governor of Alaska....hmmmm? Authoring countless political books, historical novels and position papers versus authoring a single book about her Vice-Presidential campaign...hmmmm? PhD in European history versus bachelors degree in communications....

No honest person who has heard the two speak can say they would rather have Palin represent the GOP in a debate. It’s wishful thinking.

Sorry to rant, but I get real ticked at the abuse Newt gets here by many of the same people who fawn over Palin, who is admirable, but really quite average.

Hank

The Rs did hold the House for several elections, but for how many years was Newt Speaker of the House? In 1994 , the Rs threw "all elections are local" out on its ear. As I recall, Rush was as helpful in 1994 as Newt, and much more helpful after. Four years, followed by Livingston, followed by Hastert. So, by comparison with who followed, Newt was a good Speaker.

What really gets me about Gingrich and other so called leaders is that they’ve felt this way about Obama since the elections but were to damned afraid to put their butts on the line and say it.

They waited to see if Americans would stay awake after the first initial Tea Parties in April 09 and when we did, they are just now coming out swinging.

Conservatives have been saying these exact same things about Obama for more than two years and Gingrich who wants us to rally behind him and promote him to the White House just found his cajones to speak out?

So sorry Mr. Speaker, continue going on Hannity and speaking your mind. That’s if we’ve been saying it long enough you feel protected enough to speak-out.
