Dick Armey Backs Boehner's Strategy On Tax Cuts (Armey racking up RINO chits today)

Dick Armey, chairman of the tea party-backing FreedomWorks, got behind Rep. John Boehner's (R-OH) take-what-you-can-get talk about extending the Bush tax cuts at a breakfast with reporters sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor this morning.

Asked if Boehner made "the right move" with his suggestion that he'd vote for extending just the Bush tax cuts affecting the middle class if that's all that could reasonably pass the Democratic-controlled Congress, Armey said...

... Boehner explained himself, just wish he would be able to explain how low tax rates expand an economy

It leaves more money in the private sector for investing and job creation.
Or is that a trick question?

I would rather have the Republicans vote ‘Present’ for this measure instead of giving legitimacy to the Democrat proposal with their ‘yes’ votes.

Yesterday a whole bunch of posters here jumped all over Boehner with stupendous knee-jerk negative reactions.

The posters are not RINOs or ill-intentioned, it's just that too many conservatives, as well-versed as they are in politics, just don't understand political strategery.

Boehner's gauntlet thrown before the Dems is a brilliant tactic.

I am willing to be totally wrong. Obama is using Alinsky tactics - identify, isolate, destroy. However, Boehner just cut him off at the hips by saying, of course he would never vote against tax cuts but that keeping all cuts is a better strategy. Where is Obama to go now?

The Republicans are playing the issue correctly. Something for the great mass of voters is a smart political move that deprives the libeals of wedge issue in the coming general election.

>>I predict a pair of sliver bracelets and perp walking are in his future....<<

It won’t be that dramatic. Under that scenario there would be too many problems for the country. A Constitutional crisis like you’ve never imagined. He will quietly be forced to resign for a reason that they think will pass.

It has to happen after the mid terms because if done before there would be other complications.

I liked the move by Boehner, he took away their issue once again. It really was his only play, thinking long term. You take control and then hold ODumbo hostage with tax bills which don't drop the marginal rates but increase and increase deductions for wealth generators. I agree that asking for perfection is the enemy of the good in this case. Sometimes you just have to be pragmatists. Even the Founding Fathers who have been elevated erroneously as being purely principled men knew about political expediency. The Revolutionary War ended not because we cause irreparable harm to the British military, but because in Paris Franklin and Adams negotiated a lucrative deal for the Crown the get even more rich in the West Indies in an alliance with American interests and a promise for American to stay out of the their dispute with the French. English Privateers regularly attacked French Merchant vessels off the American coast with the support of us in the years 1783 to the beginning of the War of 1812. So the Rev War ended not becuase of what you learned in 6th grade history but because it was a "Negotiated" peace where both parties benefited

“Boehner made a brilliant move. If the Dems were to actually introduce legislation to preserve the middle class tax cuts and let them expire for the “wealthy” before the election, there is no way he could hold the Republicans together to vote against that bill.”

I beg to differ. Boehner and brilliant should never be used in the same sentence. What he SHOULD have done was to not accept the leftist template that was served up to him by the commie interviewer. He should have explained that the top 10% of earners pay 72% of all income taxes. Even though the regime and the media have stated that small businesses are NOT affected by this tax increase on those making over 250,000 dollars, it is a fact that most small business owners have to pay personal income tax on the income of their businesses... not on the profit from... but the income. These are the very people that hire the most Americans and are the largest part of the engine that drives our economy. A tax increase upon this sector will further drive jobs into the dirt. Also, anyone that PAYS TAXES should receive a tax cut... otherwise it is just redistribution of wealth and fomenting class warfare. None of these points could be successfully disputed... not if they are supported by someone that has made themselves aware. Instead... boehner accepted the dim template without so much as a whimper... and then proceeded to cave to the dims agenda, promoting class warfare and communist redistribution. I said it... Mark Levin said it and now IBD said it in a current Editorial on FR.
