The nation's top counterterrorism officials were blunt. The threat from within---of Americans willing to commit terrorist acts--- is growing. FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III told a congressional hearing today that a spike in recent terrorism cases is direct evidence of the evolving threat.
"Groups affiliated with al Qaeda are now actively targeting the United States and looking to use Americans or Westerners who are able to remain undetected by heightened security measures," Mueller said. "It appears domestic extremism and radicalization appears to have become more pronounced based on the number of disruptions and incidents."
The officials all pointed to a series of recent incidents that show that al Qaeda, its affiliates and associates were more active than ever.
"During the past year our nation has dealt with the most significant developments in the terrorist threat to the Homeland since 9/11," Leiter told the committee. "The attack threats are now more complex, and the diverse array of threats tests our ability to respond, and makes it difficult to predict where the next attack may come.
The attacks cited included:
The disruption of a plot to bomb the New York City subway by Najibullah Zazi, a naturalized U.S. citizen, last September.
The attack at Ft Hood Texas by gunman Army Maj. Nidal Hassan which resulted in 13 people killed and over 30 wounded.
The attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253 by alleged al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula operative Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
The averted May 1 bombing in Times Square by Faisal Shahzad

Radioactive Gamma Projectile is a device which is used to store ‘Dirty Bomb’ or nuclear bomb. Sources have also revealed that the equipment has been missing since last three months.

We are ALWAYS under this threat......but something tells me this is a DIVERSIONARY TACTIC. I’ve grown to be quite the cynic under the rule of this regime.
Most notably the left will always have their talking points in place prior to the attacks.

Agreed. I’m thinking they may try to game the system with some form of late term sessions or some such.
I don’t know if it is or not.
My thoughts were running along the lines of the Dems trying to pull some sort of later term sessions to pass legislation before the leadership changes.

It reminded me of the attack on the U. S. barracks in Lebanon back in the 80s. Not sure if the same type of explosive setup was used though.
In the case of the OKC bombing they should have had talking points ready. At the time it was widely reported that they were warned that an attack was going to take place in one of two or three places. Then one did.

Prior to both the left and the MSM were in a feeding frenzy with claims the right wing extremist were violent.
With the car bomb in NYC they even started a talking points campaign prior to the attempt comparing the Tea Party to Tim McVeigh wannabees. How lucky for the dems that the car bomb contained fertilizer just like the OKC bomb and fit their talking points to a T.
The MSM all jumped that the fertilizer meant it was a right wing extremist like Tim McVeigh. It was a virtual feeding frenzy until they found out it was a muzzy, then silence.
It never fails. It's happened every time since the 1st WTC attack in 1993.
Interesting...all of the attempted attacks have been by foreign or middle eastern whackos..yet we are being told Americans are the growing threat. sounds like a possible set up to me.
It looked like that to me too. But from my experience in foreign countries and their drug laws it could contain just about anything.
IIRC muslims like to drug themselves before engaging in violence. I wish I had saved the residue that was in it when I found it.
