Sarah Palin's 2012 Opportunity
US News and World Report's Washington Whispers ^ | September 28, 2010 | Paul Bedard and Caitlin Huey-Burns

Posted on 09/28/2010 8:55:19 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The odds-on favorite to win the GOP presidential nod in 2012 is none other than Sarah Palin, according to a statistical formula developed by Villanova University Prof. Lara Brown. The professor's figuring is bad news for presumed hopefuls like Rep. Mike Pence, Sen. Jim DeMint, ex-Gov. Mitt Romney, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov. Haley Barbour, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton. Many simply joined the game too late, says Brown, author of the new book Jockeying for the American Presidency: The Political Opportunism of Aspirants, which studies every election since the founding. Others, like DeMint, are still brewing but won't be ready until 2016. As for Newt? "I don't think the GOP can forgive him," she says.

The book devises an "opportunism variable" based on the candidate's résumé to explain who wins the presidency and why. Palin has an advantage because she has been elected both mayor and governor. She also was a major party vice presidential nominee, giving her an enviable breadth of political experience. According to Brown, candidates who take risks and run for a variety of offices do well. It's even better if they lose a presidential race or two. "It takes about a run and a half to get there," Brown says. Pols "may think they can get it done in six months or a year, but [winning] will actually take them running, losing, and planting seeds," she says.

I think it’s almost anybody’s game. But judging by past behavior, anytime a republican starts making connections with American people the dems and MSM will make them a laughingstock/demonize them, etc.. It’s worked pretty well so far in the case of Sarah Palin. Imagine Mother Teresa trying to run for President and what they’d do to her. Plus, now we have a justice dept. that colludes with Black Panthers and others of that persuasion to intimidate voters.

And maybe by 2012 Obama will have his ‘volunteer, (paid by taxpayers), national youth ‘corpse’ to march around in fatigues shouting his name. They’ll organize neighborhood watch groups to report on anyone who might pull the wrong lever. Kids report on parents, etc., like Nazi’s. And they’ll have access to your computer, too, so we’re all doomed.

Never lose sight of the fact that you have John McCain to thank for all that is happening in the country now...tea parties, Sarah, etc....because it was McCain who brought us Sarah and that was the beginning of it all.

Here, this will make your pain go away...

Thanks, my ribs were really hurtin' from my chuckling over our respective posts #215 and #217. You look good with one of them bear traps snapped down on your foot.

Oh, and thanks ever so much for the kneejerk graphic posting, very thoughtful. Unlike you however, it takes more than a few winks and "you betchas" to win my support.

Fixed that right up for ya, no charge.

And speaking of McStain, never lose sight of the fact that RINO-traitor threw the election to Comrade Zero, the guy McCain told us that we had "nothing to fear" about.

And are you suggesting that without John McCain that Sarah Palin would never have risen to national prominence on the strength of her own ideas, that she might still be a semi-obscure Governor of Alaska?

This sounds like he wants her to run against Obama and lose to further her political career.

Whoa, did you ever sleep?

I do believe you're side stepping a bit in your answer to my Schweiker post, and I think it's important you hit it straight up rather than the way you did.

Most of your anti-Palin arguments (not all) appear to stem from her endorsement of McCain.

I showed you an endorsement that was far worse from someone who I believe you would admit to being a strong conservative, at least I would hope you would. Schweiker was not only endorsed he was one of Reagan's original cabinet members.

The main point is, you can't argue "inconsistency" over one endorsement, particularly when there are perfectly good reasons to understand that endorsement. You can't say she's not a conservative over that one, otherwise you're left with the impossible case that Reagan wasn't one either.

"Sarah Palin doesn't need over the top fanatics posting graphics which suggest violence to others, as you did in #32."

If THAT is your reading of the graphic, then you're one of the biggest loons to ever post on this board.

"The fact is, we're not talking about Ronald Reagan, and the comparisons suggesting that Sarah Palin is another Reagan simply do not hold water, not in the areas of experience, not in the areas of conservative gravitas, and what Reagan may have done 34 years ago quite frankly has no relevance today."

Michael Reagan disagrees with you. I suspect that he knows more about his dad (and Sarah Palin) than you.

"My disagreements are mainly with Palin's rabid followers, who insist on putting her on a pedestal. They truly believe that someone who quit after half a term as governor of the 4th least populous state is qualified to be POTUS."

Having taken the time to determine what her track record of accomplishment was during that half term, I can state categorically that she IS qualified to be POTUS. I know of no other governor who comes even close. She got more done in those two YEARS than most governors do in two TERMS.

"....She certainly has full range to speak her mind. That would be silenced in a presidential campaign......"

?????

Why would that necessarily be so? Why would Sarah, running for President, suddenly be forced to not speak her mind and to the issues?

She certainly has full range to speak her mind. That would be silenced in a presidential campaign.

What do you think Sarah believes philosophy and policy-wise that she's put forth during these primaries that she'd hold back during a presidential campaign?

Unfortunately, you’ve managed to steer the topic in the direction that dictated my response, which more or less was kind of the point I was getting at.

You're delusional. What with With Hope and Change, Obama was the candidate from Central Casting with a lock on the election, even before the US ecomony went pear shaped.

Palin has endorsed 6 RINOS.

McCain, Ayotte, Norton, Handel, Fiorina , and Bondi over conservatives.

Palin is on record for....

L.O.S.T. Treaty

Carbon Credits

Windfall profits Tax

Amnesty

” registration” which is the prelude to amnesty, and endorsed by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Now tell me she is a conservative again.

Q: Let me clear something up: Sen. McCain has said he supports caps on carbon emissions. Sen. Obama has said he supports clean coal technology, which I don’t believe you’ve always supported. Do you support capping carbon emissions?
PALIN: I do. I do. “

PALIN: I was the first governor to form a climate change sub-cabinet to start dealing with the impacts. We’ve got to reduce emissions. John McCain is right there with an “all of the above” approach to deal with climate change impacts. As we rely more on other countries that don’t care as much about the climate as we do, we’re allowing them to produce and to emit and even pollute more than America would ever stand for. It’s all the more reason that we have an “all of the above” approach, tapping into alternative sources of energy and conserving fuel, conserving our petroleum products and our hydrocarbons so that we can clean up this planet.

Yet in an op-ed published in The Arizona Republic on 26 Mar. 2010, Palin herself admitted that she had "respected McCain" for years before 2008 and expressed "deep admiration" for his repeated "willingness" to stab conservatives in their backs...

I'm sure you can provide a link to an article with those exact words...hyperbole much?
