Kamala Harris Declares Victory In CA Attorney General Race
SF Appeal ^ | November 3, 2010 | Ari Burack, Bay City News

A late overnight surge in votes that carried San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris into the lead in the race for state attorney general has her campaign declaring victory today.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting as of 12:39 p.m., Harris, a Democrat, led Republican Steve Cooley, the Los Angeles district attorney, 45.9 percent to 45.7 percent, according to the California Secretary of State's Office.

Harris had trailed Cooley until the early morning hours.

"In spite of Steve Cooley's Dewey-esque declaration of victory" late Tuesday night, a statement from Harris' campaign said, "San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris will be the next attorney general of the state of California."

Harris has so far received 3,292,836 votes, and Cooley 3,277,998 votes.

Elections officials must still tally provisional and absentee ballots, so the results are not final.

However, Harris' campaign asserted that "uncounted ballots will only bolster" Harris' lead.

A spokesman for the Cooley campaign did not immediately return a call for comment.

Anybody ever see the weird, post-apocalyptic indie movie “Masked and Anonymous”? It depicted Kalifornia as a lawless third-world hellhole.

It had a lineup of great actors but an abominable script. It deservedly sank out of sight but I’ll always remember its ambience.

“California is over... the rest of us will NOT bail you out” Um, you will not have any say int he matter. The federal oligarchy will abil out leftafornia because it is ‘too big a piece of the American economy to fail’. We The People are no longer the sovereigns of this nation. We no longer live in an actula Republic. But we are allowed the sham of elections ... for the time being. Harry Reid’s criminal reelection should tell you what is really going on in Amerika.

Too bad Mel Cooley lost. He should have run with Morrie Amsterdam and Rose Marie.

If they go bankrupt can we dissolve their statehood like the old General Motors was dissolved and a new company was formed? Make them a territory, take away their representatives to the US House and Senate, and make them reapply to become a state again preferably not until several years go by so they have an opportunity to learn from their mistakes first.

If you can do it, get out of there a.s.a.p. The state is on the verge of chaos and Moonbeam hasn’t a clue other than to appease the militant laRaza scum and borrow more for the fantasy green future. Leave NOW, before the commie leftafornia government takes all you have to cover their hind ends. And they will do it, selectively of course.

Without final results victory is declared. hmmmm. But this is California and specifically San Francisco (the asylum).

The unions in CA are largely responsible for this debacle. As a resident, I am sickened by the stupidity of Californians who are blinded by their greed and continue to elect the likes of Boxer and Brown. We’d leave in a hot minute if our kids and their families weren’t here. It’s going to get ugly quickly. The uninformed who voted no on 23 will find out how much business we’ll lose, not to mention personal liberties to choose our own products, etc.

The whole place should go bankrupt and utterly fail and descend into anarchy. And a word to the GOP-controlled House: NO money for bailouts, especially to states like CA and NY. They want to elect liberals to run things, well then, they're on their own.

I know a lot of good people will suffer if it happens that way, but sometimes you have to hit bottom before you can get well again. Like every failed socialist state, these will have to learn the hard way that spending other people's money only takes you so far, then you collapse.

“The leftist victory is apparently complete in California. They’ve elected the San Francisco DA to the top cop position; a woman who has zero support from law enforcement (no organizations) and wouldn’t prosecute cop killers as DA. Imagine electing her over LA’s DA Steve Cooley, what a complete joke this is...”

Best wishes to Steve C...I don’t know if he would win after absentee ballots are counted...

I turned in my absentee ballot on the election day...I guess it could help Cooley win...Maybe...

I think big wins by Brown and Boxer helped other Dems on the ballot...Including Harris...

Cooley lost LA Co to Harris...By a big margin...More than 10 % margin...

Harris...OK...She is a decent looking woman...But, she is a soft-on-crime liberal...She would be worse than Bill Lockyer and Jerry Brown...Lockyer and Brown were two previous CA AGs...And Dems as well...

Would Harris, as the AG, go on a crusade to abolish death penalty in CA? Even Jerry Brown didn’t do that as the AG...

As of now, Cooley is ahead by about 17,000 votes, per http://vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/attorney-general/

Cooley was endorsed by practically every law enforcement organization and by the L.A. Times as well as a lot of other newspapers. I am shocked it’s this close.
